SINGAPORE - A 20-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday (Jan 26) for drink driving in relation to an accident along Seletar Expressway (SLE), the police said in a statement released on Friday (Jan 29).
On Tuesday (Jan 26) at about 9.10am, the police were informed about an accident between a car and lorry along SLE towards Bukit Timah Expressway.
The driver of the car subsequently fled the scene, while the driver and passengers of the lorry sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.
The suspect was later arrested along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9. He failed the Breath Evidential Analyser test and was believed to have driven the car without a valid driving licence and motor insurance.
He is expected to be charged in court on Feb 11 for his offences.
If convicted of drink driving, he may be disqualified from driving for at least 12 months. First-time offenders may be fined between $1,000 and $5,000.
Repeat offenders face a mandatory jail term of up to three years and a maximum fine of $30,000. If death or serious injury is caused, they may also face up to six strokes of the cane.
For driving without a valid licence and hit-and-run offences, he may be punished with a jail term of up to three months or fined up to $1,000.
The Traffic Police said they take a serious view on irresponsible and dangerous road behaviour, and would not hesitate to take deterrent action against such individuals to safeguard other road users.
