SINGAPORE - Two alleged molesters who targeted young girls on public buses were arrested by the police in as many days.
One victim was 12, while the other was 15.
At about 5pm on Monday, the 15-year-old girl reported that a man had outraged her modesty on board a bus travelling from Bukit Batok Avenue 7 to Woodlands Bus Interchange.
The Passenger Service Centre at the bus interchange was alerted and the police were informed. A 46-year-old man was arrested within an hour.
The following day, a 12-year-old was allegedly molested by a 53-year-old man on a bus travelling along Punggol Central. A member of the public became suspicious when he noticed that the man sat beside the girl after boarding the bus - despite there being plenty of empty seats.
The member of the public, who noticed that the victim was fidgeting in her seat, tipped off the bus driver.
The driver informed his company and the police were called in.
Both the driver and the member of the public ensured that the suspect remained in the bus until the police arrived.
If convicted of outrage of modesty, the 46-year-old faces a jail term of up to two years, a fine, caning, or a combination of these penalties.
If convicted, the 53-year-old faces a jail term of up to five years, a fine, caning, or a combination of the penalties.
This is because the alleged victim in his case is younger than 14.
