SINGAPORE - Police have arrested the suspects in two cases of molest which occurred inside lifts.

In one case, a 26-year-old woman was molested by a stranger when she took the lift at a housing estate in Telok Blangah Rise on April 21. The suspect, 26, was identified with the help of CCTV footage and later arrested.

He will face court on Friday. If convicted, he may face up to two years in jail and caning.

The other case involved a 27-year-old female victim who was molested inside a lift at a housing estate along Beach Road on April 23. Although he fled, police were able to identify and arrest a 37-year-old suspect at Geylang East the next day.

Investigations against this suspect are still ongoing.

The police have issued an advisory to remind the public to take the following crime prevention measures:

a) Be aware and alert of your surroundings. If you see any suspicious character, or you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a crowded area or call the Police for assistance.

b) Do not enter the lift with a stranger. Let the stranger take the lift and wait for the next one

c) If you are molested, immediately shout for help or activate your shrill alarm. Take note of the description of the culprit, the direction and mode of escape taken by the culprit. Call '999' as soon as it is safe to do so.
