TWO Chinese nationals were charged in court on Thursday with theft of $1,380 worth of property from an elderly man in Chinatown. Liu Shiying, 51, and Yao Shiming, 50, believed to be involved in a 'drop money scam'', allegedly stole $680 and a watch worth $700 from Mr Kwan Kuen Siong, 68, near CK Department Store at New Bridge Road on Sunday.. Police said in a statement that since July, there have been 13 such cases involving mainly elderly victims. The suspects would hang around banks and target potential victims who had withdrawn large amounts of cash. Liu and Yao were remanded at Bedok police division for further investigaton. If convicted, each can be jailed for up to three years and/or fined. They will be back in court on Tuesday.
