SINGAPORE: Police arrested 11 women of different nationalities around Orchard Towers, who are believed to be involved in vice activities.

The suspects are between 21 and 43 years old.

They were caught on Friday during a seven-hour operation by police.

Here is the full statement from the police:

On 22 March 2013, police arrested 11 females of different nationalities, aged 21 to 43, in the vicinity of Orchard Towers for their suspected involvement in vice activities.

The 7-hour operation was carried out by Tanglin Police Division, in partnership with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and is part of police's on-going enforcement efforts.

Commander of Tanglin Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police, Lu Yeow Lim, commended his officers for the good arrests. He reiterated that the police will not let up in its efforts to clamp down on such illicit activities and anyone found assisting in vice activities in any way will be dealt with severely.

Any person who contravenes the offences under the provisions of the Women's Charter, Chapter 353, is liable on conviction to a fine of up to a maximum of $10,000, or to imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
