<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->The green field of Hong Lim Park was awash in pink yesterday afternoon.
About 1,000 people dressed in various shades of pink turned up at Speakers' Corner there to participate in Singapore's first outdoor gay event.
Pink Dot Sg, a gay interest group, organised it.
The group was lobbying for a 'more inclusive Singapore' as well as the freedom to love, regardless of sexual orientation.
The event was peaceful and good-natured, with singing and cultural performances as well as groups of people picnicking on the grass. Many turned up with their dogs.
While the majority of those who were there were young, not all were gay.
Sociologist Teo You Yenn, 34, attended the event with her husband and 11-month-old daughter. All three were in pink.
Said Ms Teo: 'I believe there should be different kinds of families in Singapore. Gay people should have the right to public space and privacy, like everyone else.'
Local actors such as Timothy Nga, Neo Swee Lin and Pamela Oei were also there to support the cause.
The crowd started gathering at 3pm and dispersed at around 6pm.
At 4.30pm, they gathered to form three giant human formations - the words 'Love', '4 All', and finally, a huge pink dot.
The event was initiated last year by Singaporean Roy Tan, 50, who works in the health-care industry. It was scheduled to take place in November last year, but was postponed to ensure that all those who wanted to participate got to do so, as there was an overwhelming response from the gay community.

It is the fashion of the day, like global warming or saving the dolphins. Almost everyone interviewed speaks with a strange acquired accent.

Gayness has been around since time immemorial and permeates every strata of society. The typical gay in slippers, holding a copy of newspaper are either checking out toilets like eager beavers, standing in front of urinals holding their penises waiting for love or "swimming" at East Coast in their skimpiest trunks. In short, everywhere except at Hong Lim Park.

I am sure they are as comfortable as can be, not just in the physical sense. I seriously doubt if they feel discriminated in their work or in their daily routine. I think most have even done NS.

The attempt to portray wholesomeness and open-minded progressive people is as flat as a prata. These pink people must be hypocritical to talk about inclusiveness and tolerance when they did not bother to reach out to 99.9% of their own kind. They rather achieve a picture-perfect outing by getting people of all walks of life there.

These people should be nuked or placed in an isolated island on their own or else mankind will fail to reproduce.

at least they are much better and happier people supporting for a real cause as compared to SDP who always brags about " getting more supports" but their turn out is usually the same 20 or so clowns .

it's heartening to know that there are people who support a cause that is very prevalent and real now in our society. however, there are still many self-righteous hypocrites who shall continue to propagate dissent and hatred upon a minority group that they think deserve their senseless mocking.

these ruthless bunch would cherry pick on others' splinter while they are totally blind to the log in their own eyes.

they forget to LOVE their fellow human beings.

Poor boy at the left bottom corner, does he knows why he is there?

u see younger kids in SDP "peaceful" protests. do they know why they are there?

Ans: if anything goes wrong, the sdppykids can be used as shields! that's why their parents got arrested while the PINKDOT event was undisturbed.

This trend is worrying...as for example with regards to real political reforms,,there is not much interest,,but seems Minorities get more support for this,,what about support for a better singapore for all? Where is the support in that?
