有“永远的军中情人”之称的方季惟，是继邓丽君以后最受欢迎的军中情人女歌手，出生台北市万华的眷村，在校时是国家曲棍球代表选手。高中时曾试音唱过电视剧主题曲，毕业后因具有美工特殊才艺，第一份工作是进入蓝与白唱片公司，担任文案人员，因外型亮丽被公司相中试音，出片便一炮而红，成名歌曲《悔》。后经纪公司将方季惟定位为清新阳光的健康型玉女歌手，曾经蝉联军中情人1991～1994四届冠军。因有多首脍炙人口的歌曲，而有K歌女王与柔情歌手的封号。前期作品有多首打进华视《金曲龙虎榜》。其中1992年专辑《想你想到梦里头》曲风多元，轻摇滚化，在华语流行乐坛占有一席之地。代表作：《爱情的故事》《想你想到梦里头》《怨苍天变了心》《海鸥飞呀飞》《两个口袋》。
影视处女作因琼瑶的赏识与秦汉、刘雪华合演热播琼瑶剧《海鸥飞处彩云飞》，1991年担任周星驰电影《赌侠II之上海滩赌圣》台湾版女主角。与王菲、Beyone等歌手录制合辑《唱不完的歌》。1997年受邀出席第69届奥斯卡颁奖典礼，成为第一位登上奥斯卡红地毯的华人女歌手。
