2月4日中午，武汉市黄陂区木兰山下一处朴素的小院里，85岁的马旭奶奶因感冒卧床休息，老伴颜学庸和解放军小战士一起给门窗贴上春联、窗花，以简单的仪式迎接新年的到来。

马旭出生于黑龙江省木兰县，是我国首位跳伞女兵，曾参加辽沈战役和抗美援朝战争。自入伍后，她六十多年再未回过故乡，离休后和老伴住到了武汉市黄陂区木兰乡。除了和“木兰”二字有着不解之缘，老人戎马一生的传奇经历，与女英雄花木兰有许多相似之处。

去年9月，已是耄耋之年的马旭夫妇，做出一个重大决定，将毕生积蓄一千万元捐给家乡黑龙江省木兰县，用于教育和公益事业，款项巨大，以至于当时银行工作人员还以为老两口被电信诈骗还报了警。
4日中午，记者来到马旭家里，房间陈设简陋，除了一屋子书籍和报纸，没有一件气派的家具，和捐出千万积蓄的“标签”形成鲜明反差。
马旭不在平时经常待的房间。颜学庸面露难色：“奶奶感冒了，害怕传染给你们，待在卧室里不肯出来。” 颜学庸说，1月底，老两口应邀到黑龙江电视台录制节目，马旭刚到哈尔滨就感冒发烧了，本来打算回家乡木兰县看看的计划也只能作罢。
“一直没好透。昨天我还带她去同济医院看病打针了。” 颜学庸一边煮面条一边说，他们还以为昨天是大年三十，晚上回来用电磁炉煮了两碗速冻水饺：“吃到一半才发觉搞错了时间。”
农历大年三十，马旭的丈夫颜学庸在居住的小院子里贴福字。
颜学庸煮的面条就是二老大年三十中午的午饭。他们平时吃得就很简单，过年也不例外。早些年两人还会腌点腊鱼腊肉，现在年纪大了，吃不得多少荤腥。
怕两位老人孤单，4日中午，附近部队本想邀请两位老人到营地一起包饺子守岁，无奈马旭奶奶感冒尚未痊愈，仍需卧床休息。下午，一名小战士送来亲手书写的门联，陪颜学庸一起认真贴到每一扇门上，小院终于有点儿年味了。
据北京青年报报道，作为第一代空降兵，马旭总计跳伞140多次，成为中国第一个跳伞女兵、跳伞次数最多女兵、实施空降年龄最大女兵。
20世纪90年代，马旭离休后，并没有“安享晚年”，而是仍忙着医学科研。但随着年纪渐长，无儿无女的马旭越发思念家乡。
2017年9月，黄继光生前部队在武汉举行纪念黄继光牺牲65周年的活动，马旭作为特邀代表参加。在这场活动中，马旭见到了多年不见的部队教练员金长福，跟他说起想把毕生积蓄1000万捐献给家乡木兰县的想法，并委托其帮忙联系家乡的政府。
9月12日，木兰县教育局局长季德三和同事在金长福的陪同下前往武汉，代表木兰县政府接受了马旭老人的第一笔捐款300万元。
“8月末，老人有一笔300万的理财产品到期，我们到武汉后，就一起去工商银行办理了汇款。明年3月底，老人还有另一笔500万元的理财产品到期，预计明年4月捐出，同时，老人在邮政储蓄银行还有200万的活期存款也将捐出，这就是1000万的由来。”
当时在工商银行转账时，由于老人年事已高，转账金额太大，银行工作人员还以为他们是骗子，担心老人受骗报了警。“派出所民警都到现场，给我们和老人的单位都打了电话，核实了我们的身份才让转账。”
这位能捐出千万积蓄的老人，可生活堪称艰苦朴素，离休后主要还在做医学科研。季德三说，老人每年去老年大学读书，平时也健身，有机会老两口还跳跳拉丁舞，多数时间还是研究医学。
老两口住在武汉黄陂区的一处小平房，家中陈设极为简陋，“家里有很多书和报纸，没多少家具，睡的床是六七十年代的硬板床，沙发也是四五十年前的老式沙发，已经露出破麻袋和棉絮了，穿的是部队发的军装，吃的都是简单饭菜。”
老两口共用着一部用了多年的翻盖手机，身穿褪色的作训服，脚上穿的是十几元一双的鞋子。
面对节俭的生活，马旭坦言生活美好是一种内心的感受，吃喝玩乐只是一时欢愉，内心的坦然和富足是永远的：“幸福在于对人民有所贡献。人民认可我，我就很幸福。”
