Chitchat Do u have the "won't happen to me" syndrome ?

Do u have this syndrome ?
Forget about probability. Its either it will happen or it will not happen.
The chances of things happening is equal for everyone.
But some people thought that other people have higher probabilities.
Recent cases. Vehicles crashes . Bus crashes .
We can avoid things to happen but we cannot control the outcome.
What am I talking ? So should we continue to increase our risk or lower it ? Does it make any difference ?

The same question can be ask "if one have not been poked by a needle, they won't know exactly how painful it is".
The same scenario when a group of soccer fans watching a live match on TV. They only knows how to criticize the striker or goal keeper is lousy.
But if they themselves were to be placed on the soccer field, can they perform as good or even much better than those whom they have been criticizing?

A lot of times, in fact 99.99% most people are very confident that this and that "won't happen to me" coz all these while they have been fortunate enough and avoided suffer all these sack backs.

Yup. Most tends to insert a "likely" won't happen to me, be it the good or bad things. When things want to happen it happens. No one will be spared :/

It's a before and after effect. Do not be mislead by the higher or lower probability.

Oh fuck it depends on what situation you are talking about.

The examples you gave like the car crash on the AYE where the merc was travelling in the opposite direction well that's practically a 1 in a million example. Same thing with bus accidents etc. Obviously most ppl would assume something like that wouldn't happen to them and what do you expect them to do? Don't drive on the AYE or even on any road? Don't even leave the house that lowers your risk substantially. Then again you might choke on your food or your house ceiling might come crashing down on you even if you don't die in road accidents outside.

Your examples you give don't fit the topic here. You should instead use examples like driving a nice flashy car/displays of wealth and jewellery in the most crime ridden part of JB and not get robbed now that would be a better example.

Thanks for pointing out. I had thought it that way too.
But there is a but... before the bus crash in jb killing the sinkies, they also would have thought it won't happen, the probability is low.
However I would think the subject is more closely related to diseases. It hits anyone not relating to probability.

What do u mean it hits anyone not relating to probability.probability is the mathematical representation of the likelihood or chance of something happening to you.winning toto is probably 1 in a million or (millions) per ticket,of course if u buy more tickets hundreds or thousands of toto tickets ur probability goes up.dieing when ur bus goes off a cliff in mudland is also probably a 1 in a million event,of course people think it's unlikely this would ever happen to them.however the chances of getting cancer in ur lifetime is 1 in 3,one out of every three people will get cancer at least once.arse loong already got it 3 times lucky man.profession poker player or professional gambler who spend alot of time at the casino should know 1 in 3 odds feels very high.so remember to drink more soursop and go vegan and become mgtow or a winner if u want to lower ur risk of cancer.

fuck la who would think they would die in a bus crash? What do you expect them to do? Don't ever travel to JB then your chances of getting killed or robbed in JB will drop to 0.

Anyway i recall this memorable quote from my teacher. Nothing is ever guaranteed in life except death and taxes.

to better understand the meaning of probability or the purpose of this thread,u have to study the gambler's fallacy.

The gambler's fallacy, also known as the Monte Carlo fallacy or the fallacy of the maturity of chances, is the mistaken belief that, if something happens more frequently than normal during some period, it will happen less frequently in the future, or that, if something happens less frequently than normal during some

just because three singaporeans died in a bus crash in malaysia,it doesnt mean the probability of you dieing in a bus crash in malaysia next is going to be higher or lower....its still the same 1 in 1xxxxxx or whatever the number is......just like avoiding to take a plane just because there was a plane crash recently is illogical.although if it is MAS airline theres probably a link to causation,so avoid MAS airline at all cost.those singaporeans odds of dieing in jb in a crash was the same 1 in a million,no one expected it to happen but they got lucky enough to hit the jackpot so next time remember to take down license plate to buy 4d.
