Yes I think that's what those adult kids in the article are complaining being destined of one gender influence and deprived of the right of two gender influence in their growing up.
You are not comparing apple to apple. Those you said death, sickness, divorce etc are all subsequent events that also apply to same sex parents. Like what TS said, what happened when same sex parents divorce? So same sex parents can also end up single parent family with single parent issues and the comparison here should be between two same sex parents and traditional parents.
I think how the kids turned out to be sissy or masculine is another matter. Now is about the same sex parents whether depriving their kids of their right to two gender influence. Of course due to natural and sad causes like death, sickness, divorce or irresponsible parents, kids may end up with single parent and still grow up to become outstanding individuals.
