SINGAPORE: “Smart" technologies in the areas of disaster, defence and city planning will go on display at the upcoming Singapore Airshow, said ST Engineering on Sunday (Feb 14) as it unveiled its showcase for the event.

The Singaporean engineering group will be the largest participant at the Airshow, which takes place from Feb 16 to 21, with more than 100 products and concepts on display.

The products include a range of unmanned ground vehicles and technology to be deployed for rescue missions in the aftermath of a disaster. This includes a system to detect the location of casualties using signals from their mobile devices.

For soldiers, ST said its Personal Lightweight Armour Technology (PLATE) will offer protection with material that is thin and lighter than water, but robust enough to withstand multiple hits from various projectiles.

do u trust saf technology?we should send one of these smart armour to one of those youtube gun channels,see if can withstand a 9mm,a .22 lr,5.56,7.6,or 50 calibre.

When it comes to absolute stupidity even saf is not your match. Both indons n malaysia has participated well in peace keeping missions more than sinkieland.

ST should have called it by its real name Mithril. They are creating fantasy products once again.

Why don"t they put one of these body armour vests on our fearless ex general Kee Chiu and send him to Syria. If he comes back with no holes in him, I would say the vest works.

Ask the Defence Minister to wear this and have a few disgruntled soldiers shoot at him. If he lives, then the technology works.

I remember that during my days at NS we had to say "bang, bang, ....bang" to simulate gun fire because the SAF was trying to save $ by not issuing blanks :biggrin:

During my time the SAF used 2nd hand equipment e.g. Skyhawks, M114 Howitzers, AMX13

Maybe this is the kind of threat they are referring to:wink:

Ever see useless scholar officer make entire unit carry too much weight, while he ask runner to pack his backpack with newspaper and pretend to be super soldier running ahead? Also ask soldiers through go terrain that would tire out all the troops before even fire first shot? SAF.
