You are a real fucktard, who is talking about new lines and new tunnels? We're talking about making sure MRT line don't break down so often.

Tan Chuan Jin is an idiot. His articles paints LTY as a good person, but a good person may not be competent. We are questioning his competency and not whether he will carry babies and shake fishmonger's hands

yes, maintenance of existing lines is not that costly as the quality of design and construction is very good and robust. the weakest link is in the power line or 3rd rail as can be seen in the pic below. the design is different from that of bart as the insulator is in a horizontal position (exposed to the elements) as opposed to bart's vertical position under the rail which is semi-exposed. although fully exposed, the insulator can be easily inspected by visual means and can be conveniently cleaned or its deposits removed from time to time. losing insulation properties on that one item can cause power on the 3rd rail to lose its float and creep to ground which is not desirable. regular inspection, maintenance, cleaning, and occasional replacement of such a simple component can resolve the "weakest link" dilemma and help to mitigate the majority of breakdowns caused by power faults or trips. notice the secondary "inner rails" for extra alignment and or support as weight of train cars rests only on outer rails. redundancy. good design.

To these dumb 60.1% are you fucking kidding? This man is paid millions of dollars in his 4 years as Transport Minister.

u wrong lah.
the good man is paid S$300K per year as a minister ,
it is the same with other ministers on the same pay scale.
the rest of the payment is to prevent him from being corrupted.

with his talent he could easy get S$400K to S$700K if he is not a minister.

why nobody make noise about this loss during the subprime crisis years :
The portfolio of Singapore sovereign wealth fund Temasek Holdings,
which helped bail out Wall Street icon Merrill Lynch,
fell about 31 percent over eight months last year,
Senior Minister of State for Finance Lim Hwee Hua told parliament last week.

She said Temasek's portfolio of investments fell to 127 billion dollars at the end of November,
down 58 billion from 185 billion dollars on March 31 last year.

The 60% gong kias!!

"To these dumb 60.1% are you fucking kidding? This man is paid millions of dollars in his 4 years as Transport Minister. He is extremely well paid compared to an average Singaporean. He is paid to do his job well, he is not paid huge sums of money to only TRY to do his job. It was his only job and he failed to crack the whip and whip our transport system back to shape. In short, he has failed.

The government always pride ourselves as being run like a corporation so in typical corporate style, whenever KPIs are unmet, heads will roll and this is the first time the Minister has voluntarily left his post. This is a start and I hope not the last Minister to do so. So what if they are smart people, so what if they are intelligent, if they cannot solve Singaporeans problems, they are useless to us. Time to change to the next candidate and fix our problems.

Remember, Ministers are our Servants, the citizens are the boss. To those stupid 60.1% who still cry out for Lui Tuck Yew to stay, please grow some brains and accept the need for accountability and transparency in Singapore. When people make mistakes, they must go! No questions asked. This is democracy. We cannot give people a free pass just because they are tried their best and put in utmost effort.

Please WAKE UP and stop boot licking our elites. Stop destroying our country with your gutless spineless attitude. Stand up and be the bosses of your own destiny. "

MrT broke downnn offtem because
1] money no enough for maintenance
2] inexperience worker or tidak apa attitude worker

many many years ago , a rail track was being polished to perfectly shinning state
due to a train with a stuck wheel.
the wheel was dragged along as the train moved forward.
they became aware of the problem when colour of one rail look different from the other.

Squeezing in so many extra people in the past decade made the situation worse.

Maybe the younger generation or the FT newcomers didn't know, but once upon a time, the MRT platforms did not have employees wearing white gloves and doing ushering duty during peak hours. Because there wasn't a need for that.

Suddenly, every cabinet minister, his mother and his dog says LTY good man etc.
Did they ever stick up and said that the bad train service was a result of their collective decisions?
These hypocrites are like those people who place obituaries in the newspapers - there was never
one bad man or bad woman who died.
These ministers should write their own political deaths' obituaries instead of heaping praises
on the man who had the bolls to do what they would never do themselves - resign over a bad
job done. Instead, TCJ mildly agreed to a transfer of portfolios after fcuking up his first.

I believe that the planners for the transport system, projection in the 1980's their was for a population of "x" million; but due to their oversight, they have let in Foreign Trashes which made the figures > than "x"....now the population is XX million, the older lines, is under a great strain...thank God that it could withstand the extreme loading, without a disaster.

This is priceless. In the same line of argument perhaps we should give a lump sum to would-be thieves so they won't steal.

Yo, I am in danger of being corrupted, give me 2 million dollars so I won't be. I promise 2 mil is enough for me to ward off any temptation. Promise!

What an auntie makes in a month, say $1000, they makes in minutes and yet they don't understand why we are expecting high standards from them. Paying to watch RM v Barca is different from paying to watch Hougang n Balestier.

Last I know, ministars get $1 million in compensation plus an undisclosed bonus.

with his talent he could easy get S$400K to S$700K if he is not a minister.
What talent? He has never worked in the real world at all.
