Unlikely to get any refund as all commuters has been asked to go "eat themselves"
Based on calculation: 250,000 commuters x $10/hr (average man hour rate) x 3.5 hrs (breakdown) = $8,750,000
This lump sum of $8.7mil will be paid by SMRT to their so called "independent consultants" to carry out the investigations as they are clueless about what's going on.

To pay the fine SMRT will have to increase fares to offset the deficit. So the $50 million will go from YOUR pocket to left pocket first. It will then be transferred to the right pocket via the judicial system.

A better way is for the SMRT board to take a pay cut over the next 5 years that is equivalent to the $50m fine. They can revert to the current pay after that if there is no further major train disruption during the 5 years of pay cut.
S'poreans are a forgiving lot. No need to fine SMRT S$50M coz commuters will be the real victims of SMRT's incompetency. I suggest removing the top and hiring the people who know the business and technical know-how. Damage done by SPH has been very obvious, thanks to HC.
