SMRT CORP CEO Desmond Kuek, 52, earned more than $2.25million last year, according to the company's annual report. The amount is more than double what he made when he joined SMRT in October 2012. This means his compensation had doubled in less than three years, making him SMRT's highest paid CEO.
His pay package is also larger than than of Mr Kua Hong Pak, his counterpart at rival transport group COMFORT DELGRO, a significantly larger company, who drew less than $2million last year.
In its last financial year, COMFORT DELGRO posted a turnover of $4.05billion and a profit of $283.5million while SMRT recorded a turnover of $1.24billion and net earnings of $91million.
