Singapore’s 15-year-olds don’t just excel in mathematics, science and reading, they are also world beaters when it comes to solving complex and unfamiliar problems, a global study shows.

They and South Korean teens emerged No 1, beating students from 42 other countries and economies who took part in a problem solving test, a subset of the Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) study conducted two years ago which tested students skills in mathematics, science and reading.

For the online test on problem-solving, the 1,394 students here from across the streams in the 166 government secondary schools and six private schools including Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah and Canadian International were required to tackle between four and eight problems with each problem containing several sub-questions.

For example, one question asked students to observe the simulated behaviour of a robot cleaner online and figure out the rules by which the robot cleaner operates.

- How come the majority of professors in NUS are not SIngaporeans? One of the best education system not producing best profs?
- Having the best education system in the world is useless when these high educated students graduate and cannot go to uni because 20% of the spot are reserved for FTs and cannot find a job because Singaporean companies are hiring cheaper FTs.

I have met many sinkies who cannot open their fucking mouth to tell me what they need to tell me. I have also met small-minded sinkies who cannot see the bigger picture, and many who are not graceful enough to create beautiful art.

Problem solving test is the same as IQ test where research has found East Asians to score higher than westerners. The reason had been suggested due to the complex Chinese written language learnt by East Asians from young. Scoring high in IQ test doesn't mean one would be able to think beyond the confines of the tests and react in different ways for new problems.

Sillypore's education only churned out followers but not innovators.
We have been taught the know how but not the know why?
It's still a failure in our education system after so many years.

We are supposed to have the best health care system ...yet we have bed shortages, patients sleeping in tents.

We have the best brains running our country, yet we have average to mediocre results. And we pay the highest salaries in the world for those results!

Simply put, sinkees are book smarts but nothing else. Pass exams ...become scholars ....fleece the country of $68 million over their lifetime ...that's the goal of all sinkees.

That explains why Korea and Sg have high sucide rates.
