The PAP does not care because Singapore society as a whole does not care. A government is merely a reflection of the people.
I do not agree with your first post about your years ago experience in Telok K, becos back then that was the time when cost of living was cheap.

But I definitely agree with the above statement of yours! LOL

It is " No one behind, will be left not screwed"...can't help noticing, we have a woman of a certain race, can raise Seven (7), yes! count the numbers, of children of different fathers; & can raise the children plus herself. Here we have one, a single mother of a nine year disabled son; flipping her lid & killed her son, must out of sure desperation. This highlight the disparity that, we are of a certain race...they apply the "means testing" to you , when you go for aid & most of the time, help is slow in forthcoming or there is any, very restricted & limited' more like "Oliver!, asking 'can I have more gruel". Whereas...others have it so good...don't you think so?? not meaning to to racist..:p

Am I right to guess that the retarded one is the one who became a policeman?

The family is Melayu right?

Thousands of families who lived in far worse conditions have pulled through without resorting to murdering their own offspring.

When I was growing up in a kampong off Telok Kurau road, there was a woman who lived in a shack across the road. This shack had no electricity and no running water. Her husband was killed in a road accident while he was cycling to work.

She had 5 children ranging from 1 to 9 years old. One of the kids was retarded. She survived as a washerwoman for the rich rubber merchants who lived in huge mansions facing the sea along east coast road. While she was at work, neighbors helped look after the kids. I used to help out by buying provisions for them... a bar of Sunlight laundry soap, Darkie toothpaste and other small items which I could afford.

Her kids survived. The eldest son became a policeman. I don't know what happened to the others but they were not murdered by their mother. Instead, they were fed and clothed and loved to the best of her ability. However, she would not have been able to pull it off had it not been for the assistance from those neighbors and friends who helped her out

Before blaming the PAP for everything, why don't Singaporeans take a long hard look at themselves and explain why in an HDB block where thousands live, not a single person offered any form of financial or emotional help to make life more bearable for Rebecca and Gabriel.

I'll repeat what I said in an earlier post.... the government didn't create mean spiritedness. Singaporeans did that all by themselves. If greed and money was not the driving force of Singapore society, the PAP would have been voted out a long time ago.

A society where the pursuit of wealth at all cost was encouraged, where no social safety net exist, where people are forced to fend for themselves ...these didn't happen in a vacuum. Who put in those conditions - sinkees?

If sinkees had time for other things in life, besides work, they would have voted the PAP out. The PAP strategy is to ensure that sinkees are too busy eking out a living that they don't have the time to follow the news beyond the headlines.

Guilty - PAP.

The era when sinkies really had to fend for themselves is when I was growing up and Singapore was still a British colony.

By the mid 80s, the PAP had created a society which no longer had to work hard in order to enjoy the comforts of life. Jobs far outnumbered applicants. An interview wasn't about a candidate's suitability. It was about the candidate assessing whether the company gave sufficient benefits for them to consider working there.

If the PAP is guilty of anything, it is in making life far too comfortable and creating a nation of spoilt, pampered brats who care only for themselves.

Boss, who took away the kampong? Who killed the spirit?
Thank you.

The kampong was a stinking slum. It had no sanitation, no running water, no electricity. Kids were running around with festering sores from being bitten by rats. I used to see babies with huge boils on their heads as a result of the unsanitary conditions.

Removing the kampongs was one of the best things that happened to Singapore.

The kampong spirit, on the other hand, cannot be removed by external factors, It can continue to live within us by choice or it can be abandoned if we choose to become selfish and consider only our own needs and to hell with the rest of society.

PAP in the 70s and 80s... Bravo. socialism survives.
PAP in the 90s till today... Capitalist machines.

The PAP is simply adapting to the changing times. in the 70s and 80s, socialism was essential to get the country going.

The late 80s and early90s was an era when capital injections kept the economy humming along nicely. The EDB and TDB did a fantastic job.

Today, they have to adapt again in order to deal with the mass of misinformation and distortions.

I am confident that they will prevail yet again.

like you said , it was WHEN i was growing up. and it is NOW.
when the cavemen roamed the earth , they lived in caves and they too survived.

WHEN i was growing up , hair cut was 50 cents, bus fare was 5 cent (or it was 10 cents)
for short distance.

like you said , neighbors helped look after the kids.
now can you find a neighbor willing to do this ?

all you argument full of holes and i get bored and tired to reply to most of
your posts. :mad::mad::mad::mad:

I disagree that EDB did a good job. All they do is to give zero or maximum tax incentives to MNCs without conditions that they must hire locals? The result is that MNCs in Singapore blantantly abuse their positions and brought their own PMETs into Singapore and causes unemployment for educated locals.

There are still many of us who remember the old Spore when greed was not the primary driving force.
Over time LKY changed that. MPs were paid to be honest, performance was tied to a set of numbers,.... & not the quality of life.
People became digits, work units,..

When MPs started getting paid millions what do you think happens to people's expectations:confused:
They of course want a piece of the same pie.

Many people actually believe in LKY:eek: Would you vote out someone you believed in?

The government of the day collects various forms of taxes from the people.

Money also enters the coffers through imposition of fines (by police, customs, immigration, HDB, URA, NEA and Courts).

The many gantries erected all over this tiny Nation is another "magnet" that attracts money to the state coffers.

What about COEs, hospital charges and a range of other "weapons" (at the disposal of the government of the day) that draws money?

Taxes from cigarettes, alchohol, airport (security taxes, etc) and a host of others.

This isn't a small amount and goes into billions. Within 12 lunar months how much is collected directly and indirectly from the people?

What about other wealthy institutions like churches, temples, mosques and synagogues? Surely these people can step in IF the Government of the day decide not to.

What about the late Ee Peng Liang's (dad of Gerard Ee) Community Chest and NTUC Income and many more?

Rebecca and Gabriel comprise only a small group of people in this tiny Nation needing such assistance.

If we cannot cope with the present population how on Earth will we cope when the population soars to 8 million.

PS: The actions by the so-called grassroots leaders and MPs are making matters worse for the government of the day.

They are doing it a greatest disservice. These people should be disbanded or made into apolitical organisations like the good old Welfare Dept.

It is about time for these groups to be investigated or re-trained, and the MPs sent to boot-camps on In-service sessions too. Training and more training like what is given to the workers. That is what these people need.

they should start by remaking the grassroots. some of the biggest assholes in my estate are the grassroots leaders. the system of patronage has attracted nothing but sycophants into the ranks of the grassroots... the root cause of the mass of misinformation and distortions being fed back to the government.
