<!--start of story text-->Six years ago, one man fought and lost in a battle reminiscent of the one Mr Desmond Choo of the People's Action Party (PAP) faced last Saturday in Hougang.
Mr Sitoh Yih Pin, Potong Pasir MP, suffered his second defeat at attempting a breakthrough in the opposition stronghold. The only difference: He had been there since 2000, while Mr Choo was sent to Hougang last year.
In the 2001 and 2006 general elections, Mr Sitoh lost to Mr Chiam See Tong by between 44 and 48 per cent of the votes.
'It's not easy. Whether it's Hougang or Potong Pasir, it's like a big tree where all the roots are very deep,' he told The Straits Times on Sunday.

I'd go a little further. Even with CST out, had he passed the mantle to someone like Ben Pwee, PP would still be in SPP's hands. Much as I have the deepest respects for CST, having his wife run suggested a lack of succession planning in SPP.

If CST had not walked out of PP, does he really think he could have won?

I thik Sitoh Yih Pin will perform worst than Desmond if he goes Hougang. If he is so good, then next GE go Hougang and try to win it back since he thinks he is a better bet.

Shittoh did not win Potong Pasir. It was Chiam who hand over Potong Pasir to PAP via his wife.
Chiam never trusted anybody and his selfishnes cause his own downfall.
People always accuse Chee Soon Juan of kicking out Chaim from SDP but the truth is Chaim got himself kicked out of SDP.

hi there

1. aiyoh!
2. it would not be some surprise if wp field another top gun for pp mah.
3. never under estimate underdog hoh.
4. you can ignore crying sheep or barking dogs.

WP contest Potong Pasir can be seen as a betrayal of sort to Chiam See Tong. But then again, he should blame himself for passing the baton to his wife. She might be good for coffesshop talk, but definitely not MP material.

More like Tai Tai material- super-rich and with lots of time to spare even after her shopping and afternoon teas.

Potong Pasir can remain as a SMC in GE 2016. Politic can never be predictable.

Then maybe Sitoh will see his share of votes increase if he is really doing well in Potong Pasir

if the PAP has any balls, it would leave PP as an SMC in GE2016. And it would be good to see WP challenging that half-wit Sitoh.

The media is trying to paint a pitiful picture of choo choo train and makes those which did not vote for him repent.

He is still collecting his big fat pay from CUNT right? He is just doing NS in HG.

as i mentioned earlier the fall of Potong Pasir was due to the misplaced and misdirected anger of PP residents who thought CST abandon them in time of need to contest for a greater prize..IMHO, CST should have avoided contesting elections but campaign for wife and Bishan Toa Payoh SPP Team..this would have garnered sympathy votes.. and PP will still remain a SPP power base...but now residents of PP can see for themselves how Sitoh Yi Pin despite all the talk is still unable to deliver the upgrading carrots that were promised..I truly hope that they learn their lessons and smarten up like the HG residents...
