Obvious that Singapore wants to be so woven into the fabric of U.S. strategic interests in this region that an attack on SIN will constitute an attack on US interests.
Without the noisy Communists around ( all turned capitalists) calling it a neo-colonialist/neo-imperialist lackey, the PAP govt is now unashamedly and openly pro-US and is prepared to be US' bitch than to fall into more hostile pricks.
