my history a bit rusty.

in the end, yat sen died from TB and it was chiang kai sek who fought the communists and established taiwan. in history, taiwan was like heaven and china was still hell and now hell wanna take over heaven.

taiwan is still quaking when china held their naval testing near taiwan which results in USA making lots of money selling weaponry to taiwan.

it had been like that and it remain like that. from start of history, chinese continue to kill chinese.

You'll be surprised.
There were lions in India.
Perhaps, some indians took it along with them to south east asia as pets and Sang Nila utama saw the bloody thing.
I think the sanskrit word for lions is the same as in malay.
So Singa Pura is actually in sanskrit, a language widely assimilated into malay, thai and cambodian.

I remember Sang Nila Utama supposed to be Indon Hindu prince before Indon convert to Muslim. There's no such thing as lion in Sg, Msia, Indon or India. My best guess is he saw a big hairy wild pig LOL

Sun Yat Sen is big canon fairy going around Haiwaii, Japan and Sg to con donation lah LOL

that i agree. but corruption in china vs corruption in taiwan is one helluva great difference.

corruption in china is death sentence. the convicted would have to pay for the bullets to end his life. corruption in taiwan could be easily solved by corrupting further. worst comes to worst, a jail sentence which would be bargained with further corruption. no death sentence in taiwan for the most extreme corruption.

Corruption always involve a whole big circle. Quick and easy death penalty in PRC is to shut the fucker up before he spill on more other people LOL Chinese tradition of 杀人灭口!Then the rest can safetly go on corrupted as long as follow one law, the dont get caught law LOL

last time yes. now also yes but has improved much better. officials who are corrupted also have to pay the bullets to end their lives.

too many people in china so if laws are too compassionate, very difficult to maintain peace and stability.

I never been to China, PRC or HK or ROc before. All I heard was from a late uncle who had some business in PRC.

even penang state government is sprucing up a house supposedly used by Sun Yat Sen, while the old colonial bungalows are left to the fate of developers.

I believe during the time of sang nila utama, the malay kingdoms that dominate were mostly in today's java and sumatra. It coul d be sri Vijaya(another sanskrit name) or majapahit or as the javanese pronounced it as Mojopohit. Malay kingdon were dominant in south east asia and includes today's kampuchea where some malay names still prevail such as kompong som and the islands of myanmar where Pulo is used instead of Pulau.

When the monggols invaded southern china, the Thais moved southwards and claimed the chao phraya river basin as theirs with skirmishes with the malay kingdom of Champa. The prince of Mojopohit married the princess of then Champa kingdom (today's kampuchea and parts of vietnam), The builders of Angkor wat. The monggols tried to invade java as well. But in the end, they retreated possibly due to the hot and humid climate or distance by sea, as monggols too are not keen sailors.

The fact that whatever malay kingdom that flourished, they all used sanskrit and were hindus, and later some converted to Buddhist(not many). The men and ladies were probably naked from the waist upwards (ideal dressing for the hot and humid climate).

So who was sang Nila Utama? probably somebody sent by the then kingdom of either majapahit(Java) or Sri Vijaya(Sumatra) to search for new lands to colonise. Unfortunately, during those times, the most priceless lands were the fertile ones and Peninsular Malaysia does not have that if compared to volcanic java and sumatra. but there should have some malay settlement (or maybe orang asli) in singapore already by then. And the Indians (from southern india) could have explored the region looking for suitable areas to exploit and conquer. These indians could have a lion on board one of their vessels as pets.

So Sang Nila Utama could possibly be a indian official or a malay brought up in indian dominated royal courts. The other malay kingdom that has seen better days is brunei, at one time, the ruler of the whole island of borneo. But this malay kingdom has a slightly different twist. It seems to have originated from China.

comparing sang nila to sun y s, the former was more interesting and colorful and seriously singapore needs to probe more into that than overly engrossed in a historical passerby called sun yat sen.

our next generation needs to be in touched of our very own history - the one that relates to singapore and evolves into the present state.

the sun yat sen wayang probably is another gimmick to bluff rich PRCs that one way or another sgp played a part in their history. another funny thing about all this was georgie yeo - who once couldn't speak audible mandarin - was compelled to make a very contorted speech in mandarin. just wondering the PRCs who attended the opening ceremony appreciated it or secretly thought it was one of the biggest joke of the event.

generally no PRC is impressed by our Chinese spoken or written. I am always questioned by my PRC counterparts which province i was born in or did I migrate to Sinkieland...n I received disbelief look when I told them I am Sinkie...

None of the 2 - Sang Nila nor SYS are major players in our history...to be precise.

Singapura was suppose to have been named by sang nila after he thought he seen a "lion" and hence singapura or lion city was evolved. it was imo the beginning of singapore's history. in my era, we did study roughly stories of sang nila but it was more like a fairy tale. things like the attack of flying fishes and how boatmen overcame that by using banana tree stumps.

after the educational system changed (for the worst) subjects such as history, geography and civic study were no longer available. it's now english, maths and science - the kind of subjects that only entail to making money.

singaporeans have to re-psyched to know our roots then there would be stronger sense of belonging and rapport.

our national song is MAJULLAH SINGAPURA and not majulah singapore.

singapura came about because of sang nila utama.
