Salary revision doesn't always mean less salary. Same as in your company, you only hope that it will be raised, not decreased.
PM and his cabinet salaries should be revised upwards. They make so much sacrifices, increase cost of living affects everyone - they too have to pay GST, ERP and other taxes and utilities. Wouldn't you want your boss to increase your salary because of all these increases?
They make so much money for the country and therefore need to be rewarded with performance bonus, year end bonus and other incentives. Wouldn't you ask your boss for a raise if you have brought in more revenue for your company?
They could have made more if they have not been in government services. Ask LHL or LKY. Their younger brother and son LHY who just have to look after only one or two companies earns more than the PM of the country who have to look after the welfare of 5 million people and at the same time make money for the country. If you are in the shoes of PM Lee, wouldn't you have quitted long ago to seek greater fortune elsewhere, if fortune is your main reason for working?
PM Lee and his team has to deal with all sorts of people - from the physically and mentally challenged people to the psychotic cases who simply do not understand the heavy burden of the responsibilities. If you are in their position, shouldn't you be asking for more?
Bottomline You cannot have one rule for yourself and have another rule for others - especially those in government.
I am sure Sylvia Lim, Low Thia Kiang Kiang are not fighting for a cut in their $15,000 additional income they are getting, yes?
In their 20 odd years in Hougang and Potong Pasir have you heard of the MPs asking for a cut in their MP allowance or salary?
Let's us be fair. You pay peanuts, you get monkeys!
