1. Contractor, split the work amongst different contractors unless you have no choice or time
This is really time consuming. It really gets up to my nerve waiting and waiting for one contractor to come in and go every 2-3 week, then the next one comes in and takes another 2-3 weeks and then the next.... Seem like no ending work....
2. School wise, its hard on the kids unless you go by 2nd link and even then you have to see where the kid is studying in SG as the school may be located quite far. Other alternatives include having them study in international schools here.
No choice lah. Schooling in Singapore is only $10.50 monthly as compared to those charged by international schools. Was talking to my husband the other day, he was telling me how he woke up at 5 am when he was young and have to take a school bus to school. Those days, school bus goes around a few estate to pickup as many kids as possible. Its only going back to that time again. And he said 'don't spoilt the kids, they will get it to it one lah!'
Anyway, I also feel that showing them another kind of experience by living in another country will give them a difference perspective in life.
One thing we might want to note is, the stringent schooling requirements in SG does not guarantee a job in future for your kids no matter how many hours they put in or what kind of school they go to. ....Why? Because someone from a less stringent background with a degree can get the same job that your son/daughter can and thats assuming their degrees/certs were checked in the first place. It makes me wonder what value do we add on by subjecting kids to torturous hours of additional enrichment, etc. ....Don't get me wrong, its not a problem to want to gain an edge over others, but when everyone knows and is doing the same thing you do, what are you achieving in the end? ......Its just like waiting in a queue faithfully in the hot burning sun and suddenly a bunch of latecomers get to jump the queue without going through what you did. Sometimes we need to slow down and ask ourselves, is it worth going through the whole process when someone who clearly was not even in the process gets to get in with the same rights and entitlement.
I pretty much agree with you on that. Sometimes I wonder what are we training so hard for? Keep going back for another piece of paper, endless upgrades, which in the end, there are aplenty who are younger, better and cheaper then you. Anyway, my hubby is right, its better to have a skill and have your own business. In this way, nobody can retrench you.
