A cyclist was seen clutching his head with his bicycle landing upright after a collision with a car.

A video of the incident was uploaded to both the SG Road Vigilante Facebook group, as well as the fuckwarezone forum.

According to the video's caption on SGRV, the incident happened at about 10.05am on March 30, along Lor Melayu in Kembangan.

What video showed

The video filmed by a car behind the bicycle showed the cyclist raising his right hand as they approached a T-junction.
A car is seen approaching from the right.
However, the cyclist continues forward without stopping, goes past the stop line, and proceeds to turn right.
The next moment, the car drove into the cyclist who landed on the bonnet and slid off it.
His bicycle was thrown into the air, and lands on the back of the cyclist's head, before falling back into an upright position.
The cyclist could be seen moving his bicycle to the side of the road.
He was not wearing a helmet.

Cyclist's failure to stop slammed

Online commenters were unsympathetic to the rider, noting that he was lucky to be alive or not seriously injured as he failed to stop, despite a sign indicating that he should have done so.
Others commented that it might be hard to file a claim against the cyclist who likely was riding without insurance.
It is unclear what happened to the cyclist or driver following the incident.

Hit by cyclist after stepping through gate, woman in viral video seeks apology and urges cyclists to be more careful

Hit by cyclist after stepping through gate, woman in viral video seeks apology and urges cyclists to be more careful
Ooi Boon Keong/TODAYMs Sally Ng at the gate she stepped through before being struck by a cyclist on March 21, 2022. The photograph was taken on April 12, 2022. Ms Ng believes the warning sign was put up after the incident. It is not visible in the video.
  • After her daughter was almost knocked down by a cyclist eight years ago, Ms Sally Ng, 44, said that she has always been extra-cautious when walking on footpaths with cyclists
  • Then a cyclist crashed into her on March 21, causing various injuries, and leaving her "traumatised"
  • She uploaded a closed-circuit television camera recording of the incident which garnered 105,000 views and over 1,500 reactions in just two days
  • Speaking to TODAY in a tearful interview on Tuesday (April 12), she said that she hopes that the cyclist will apologise for the hurt caused

SINGAPORE — Ms Sally Ng has been careful when crossing roads and walking on footpaths after an incident eight years ago when her daughter, aged four at the time, fell over after she was almost struck by a cyclist.
The girl, now 12, was left shaken though not badly injured when the cyclist sped across her path when she was stepping out of the lift of their flat. Ms Ng's husband chased the cyclist but was unable to catch up.
Ms Ng, 44, an executive assistant, said: "She cried a lot the day it happened and felt traumatised the whole day."
That close shave served as a lesson on road safety for the rest of the family, including Ms Ng's 14-year-old son.
Then three weeks ago, Ms Ng was stepping out of the gate of her Punggol condominium Prive onto a footpath for her evening jog and moments later, she was knocked off her feet by a cyclist.

Recounting the incident from her home in a tearful interview with TODAY on Tuesday (April 12), she said: "Because I hit my head and the impact was so great that I actually blacked out... I heard a huge 'bang', which I think was from my head (hitting the ground).
After regaining consciousness, she was unable to move her body from below the neck and was afraid that the fall had caused injuries to her spinal cord, which may cause permanent loss of function or mobility.
"I was very scared at that point of time that I may be permanently paralysed from the neck down, not able to move my body at all. And I know that this trauma and pain will live with me for the rest of my life," she said, in between sobs.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force received a call for assistance at 5.40pm, on March 21, at a bus stop along Punggol Road. Ms Ng was conveyed to Sengkang General Hospital.
The police said that a 68-year-old man is assisting them with investigations.
She said: "When I finally opened my eyes, I was in a complete shock. Then I heard the uncle (the cyclist) ask me if I was okay and if I needed any help. I said yes because I could not move and was in pain.

"I remember he then asked me: 'Why didn't you avoid me when walking out of the side gate?'"
She later decided to upload a closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) recording of the incident and account of what happened onto social media group Roads.Sg, to raise awareness of the importance of road safety and urge cyclists to be more careful when riding on walkways.
In the post, which starts off with a call for "justice", Ms Ng wrote that the cyclist "did not apologise and was rude and arrogant", adding that he "claimed that he did not hit me and blamed me for not giving way to him".
The video is footage of Ms Ng stepping out of the gate of her condominium, before glancing to her right before the cyclist crashed into her from her left, and also fell off his bicycle.
The video garnered 105,000 views and more than 1,500 reactions in just two days.
Since the video went viral, she has also seen trolls on social media commenting that she should be blamed for the incident and some have even cracked jokes.

However, Ms Ng said that she brushes these comments off and considers them "funny", while not allowing them to impede her recovery.
She said that she does not plan on requesting for compensation for medical fees or taking any legal action against the cyclist. She also stressed that she does not want netizens to "push him to a corner".
"I know that since this incident went viral, uncle must be feeling the stress from the public, or maybe even from his family. I don't want to push him anymore, I just want to bring this up so that other cyclists will be more careful," she said, her voice cracking.
She said: "I just want him to know that he shouldn't be riding so fast and he should not have been so defensive at that point of time. He should apologise as well."

Cyclist jailed 5 months for punching man who filmed him assaulting another pedestrian

Bystander who took out the camera became the victim.

Sivarkarthik Bernard, 28, was sentenced to five months' jail on May 17, 2022, for punching a man who filmed him assaulting another pedestrian, reported CNA.
He pleaded guilty to one charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
Two other charges of voluntarily causing hurt and harassment were considered by the court.

An argument on the pavement

Sivarkarthik was cycling on a pavement near Block 96A Henderson Road on July 22, 2021, at around 6:45pm.
A 63-year-old man was walking in front of Sivarkarthik while listening to a voice message from his phone.
CNA reported that the cyclist rang his bicycle bell but could not get the man's attention.
The cyclist then decided to narrowly squeeze past the man on his bicycle.
Upset, the man shouted at him and an argument ensued.
Both men hurled expletives and blamed each other for being inconsiderate.
The argument escalated and Sivarkarthik jabbed the man on his forehead, causing the latter to fall.
He continued assaulting the man with additional blows to his head and squared two solid kicks on the man's rucksack.

Pedestrians came to help

Two pedestrians saw the ruckus and one of them tried to stop the fight.
The other pedestrian, a 56-year-old man, proceeded to record a video of the incident on his phone.
Sivarkathik questioned the man about his intent but was answered with a question by the man instead.
The cyclist became upset and punched the man in the face.
He subsequently fell and Sivarkathik took the opportunity to jab the man several times on the head and only stopped when he realised that the man's face was bleeding.
The man tried to shield himself from Sivarkathik's punches by covering his head with his hands and did not fight back during the attack.

Suffered injuries

The 56-year-old man was brought to a hospital where it was revealed that he had a fracture on his eye socket, a haemorrhage in his eye and a gash on his face from the attack.
Sivarkarthik was arrested that evening after a pedestrian called the police regarding the incident.
He was ordered by the judge during the sentencing to compensate both his victims' hospital bills totalling S$1,1017.

This has to stop, says judge as he jails cyclist who hit and injured elderly man at void deck

court.jpg

June 6, 2022

SINGAPORE - An elderly man fractured his wrist after a Grab food deliveryman collided into him while weaving through the void deck of a housing block on his bicycle.
The rider, Shaikh Mohamad Irsyaad Shaikh Mohamed Ibrahim, 26, pleaded guilty on Monday (June 6) to causing grievous hurt by a negligent act.
Sentencing him to jail for three days, District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan said that such accidents had become too common and that the court has to take a strict view of such offences.
Since 2019, anyone caught using bicycles, power-assisted bicycles and personal mobility devices in the void decks and common areas of Housing Board blocks can be fined up to $5,000.
The court heard that on Oct 5, 2020, Irsyaad was riding towards a McDonald's outlet in Bedok Reservoir Road, where he stationed himself between deliveries.
While he was cycling at a fast speed through a void deck and about to cut in between the letterbox and seating areas near a lift lobby, the victim, Mr Ku Yah Chong, 71, walked by, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Heershan Kaur.
Irsyaad jammed his brakes when he saw Mr Ku, but he could not stop the bicycle in time and collided with Mr Ku, who tried to break his fall with his right hand. He was also bleeding from his finger and had swelling on his face and legs.

Irsyaad, who was not hurt, and Mr Ku called the police for help and waited together for them to arrive.
After Mr Ku was taken to hospital, an X-ray found he had fractured his wrist, and his right hand was put in a cast. He was given 38 days of medical leave in total.
The incident was not captured on security camera as it occurred in a blind spot, said DPP Kaur, adding that Irsyaad has made restitution of around $250 to Mr Ku for his medical fees.
Seeking less than one week's jail for Irsyaad, she said there was a need for deterrence as there have been many cases where cyclists negligently hurt pedestrians, especially the elderly.
“(Irsyaad) did an act so negligently as to endanger human life by riding his bicycle to cut through the void deck of the block and thereby caused a collision between himself and the victim,” the DPP said.
During sentencing, Judge Shaiffudin told Irsyaad: "You yourself would know there is a prevalence of such incident involving bicycles and pedestrians, and this has to stop.
"The court cannot relent on this. We have to show we will take a very strict view of such offences."
Those who cause grievous hurt by a negligent act can be jailed for up to two years and fined up to $5,000.

Cyclist in the middle of the road hits taxi, reason why bicycles need registration & insurance — Netizens

“Cycling should be banned from the roads. They are completely incompatible to coexist with motorised traffic and do nothing but clog up the roads... how to claim in such circumstances?” — Netizens

A cyclist riding in the middle of the road and slamming into a taxi that had to stop due to traffic sparked yet another call from the online community on the need for bicycle registration and insurance.
A short clip of the incident was shared on Facebook page ROADS.sg on Monday (July 25), showing a cyclist failing to stop on time as the taxi in front of him slowed down.

The cyclist collided with the taxi, fumbled a bit and took a quick glance at the driver before the video ended.

With over 240 comments to date, netizens were in unison that the cyclist was at fault.
“Cycling should be banned from the roads. They are completely incompatible to coexist with motorised traffic and do nothing but clog up the roads. In any incident with motorists, they always get away scot-free,” said Facebook user Loh Zheng Yi in a comment with over 130 likes.
“What is he doing in the middle of the road?” asked netizen Gan Yew Dow. “He’s the reason why bicycles need to be registered and buy insurance. Otherwise, how to claim in such circumstances?”
“This is why cyclists need to buy road insurance. If not, they can literally hit-n-run without any responsibility. Confirm that the cyclist will just be continuing his cycling and take it as if nothing had ever happened, while the driver had to pay for the repair himself. This is the loophole that our government failed to see and address times and times again!” added Facebook user Steven Chan. /TISG

Your picture: Cyclists ignoring rules and endangering others on shared paths

STPhoto23.jpg

PHOTO: NG SUAN ENG

Jan 5, 2023

As a frequent user of the Rail Corridor and the recently opened Rifle Range Nature Park, I find it frustrating to encounter so many recreational cyclists who ignore rules and disregard the safety of other shared path users.
Despite clear signs at the Rail Corridor, and my frequent polite reminders to errant cyclists, they continue to speed beyond the 10kmh limit, do not give way to pedestrians, and do not dismount and walk across the narrow truss bridges along the way.
At Rifle Range Nature Park, cyclists are using the Senapang Trail from Rifle Range Road to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, despite clear “no bicycles” signs at both entrances (above).
Many of them race down Rifle Range Road at very high speed, posing a threat to those who want to cross from Mayfair Park to Rifle Range Nature Park.
They need to learn how to respect rules and be considerate to pedestrians.
