The stress must be too great for him. The pressure to live up to the expectations of his peers and superiors. You can imagine he comes in to fill the shoes of Tharman Shanmugaratnam who is widely respected as one of the most brilliant finance ministers in the world.
In fact, when I listened to his budget 's speech, I sensed he is not as calm and steady like Tharman. His tone , as it sounded to me , was that of a perfectionist trying hard to 'justify' the budget and 'proving his mettle'. I thought he could take a calmer approach of explaining the budget logically and clearly and do it with his own poise and quiet confidence. I suppose he put himself through a lot of stress to live up to expectations. I pray for his recovery and wish that he will accept himself as who he is instead of trying to be someone else.

that means pap ministers are overrated, cant even cope with a minister's job in tiny sg but dare to demand high salary. Look at Obama...
Actually, the high salary may be a bane to Heng Swee Keat because , as I see him, he is a very responsible minister. With the high privileges, he feels that he is accountable to the country. He doesn't want to fail the expectations of Singaporeans. So, I think he pushes himself very hard to do things well not for himself but for the country.

The PAP are not charity workers, they are paid plenty of $$$ by the taxpayers.
Unfortunately they are also responsible for causing plenty of grief. No one is forcing them to stay in office.
There are many poor Sporeans out there struggling to make ends meet because of the PAP's self serving policies. At least as an elite civil servant all his medical costs will be covered by the taxpayers of Spore

Agreed. I think that's a fair statement. But the moral incentive for working hard and keeping oneself honest should not be because they are paid million dollars salaries. The motivation to work hard for the service of the country should come from the sense of public service and sacrifice. The millions dollar hypothetical question is will the Ministers be motivated to serve the country just as hard and honest if their pay is made equivalent to the pay of the President of United States.
