MRT disruption: 65 passengers detrained near Pioneer MRT station
Joo Koon and Pioneer MRT stations were closed at 9pm and reopened at 10pm.

SINGAPORE: About 65 passengers aboard a train travelling towards Joo Koon from Pioneer MRT stations were told to get off the train close to Pioneer MRT station after train services between Joo Koon and Boon Lay were disrupted due to a traction power trip on Thursday evening (Dec 17).

Public transport operator SMRT announced on Facebook at 9.07pm that Joo Koon and Pioneer stations were closed, and its engineering staff were working to resolve the fault.

Half an hour later, it said it was in the process of recovering a train that stalled between Joo Koon and Pioneer MRT stations.

Just past 10pm, train service resumed after a two-hour disruption. SMRT said the faulty train was taken out of service and that it is investigating the cause. It first sent out a tweet about a delay at 7.49pm on Thursday and warned commuters about additional travelling time of up to 20 minutes.

Free bus services and shuttle buses were activated between Joo Koon and Jurong East MRT stations.

Some commuters took to social media to warn members of the public about the disruption, which started just after rush hour.

The 70% is fine with the disruptions n screw ups as they voted for more shafting...n who did the commuters vote for?

Walking is good. It keeps the nation fit and healthy.

I agree, we had become a nation of lazy people, very dependent on escalator, travelator, lifts.....whenever possible I take the stairs, & short distances, like 2 bus stops away , I walk......

Been to HK lately, the connecting stations are huge & there are a lot of walking between MTR stations & out of the stations, the lifts are "hidden", I see a lot of old people, climbing up & down the stairs fast, for there are non-stop movement of people traffic...here!, they hobble up the stairs like "snails" & complain that the government do not provide escalator, lift etc..

We are a spoilt nation of people....

it's a privilege and honor to walk along mrt tracks. it doesn't happen often, and sinkies should seize the opportunity to do so when it arises.

In Bangkok , there is no such MRT and BTS problems.. The Thai do their work efficiently and effectively, and the MRT and BTS system is flawless. I thank the Thai mrt and bts staffs for making my day a problem free and smooth one.

and allow me to be in a position to bash and be sarcastic towards sinkie mrt and ball-less sinkie losers... i love thailand.

Hong MTR trains don't stop midway to the station and tell the passengers to walk on the train tracks to the next station like Singapore MRT.

Many of the Hong Kong MTR stations have numerous exits and some exits can stretch quite far, that's why there can be quite a lot of walking in the station. Singapore MRT stations don't have as many exits as the Hong Kong stations.

This I agree, Hong Kong Station, Central....etc..huge, many exits...train come & go fast..for they cannot afford to 'invite' the commuters to walk on tracks....the human traffic is just too many & fast flowing.....

Then you have to make time for it....have enough money on standby and provide for emergency....took uber all the way to HK airport....but used the train, MTR when arriving....the first part, means walking a lot..the second part, have plenty of time though, gave plenty of allowance to browse at airport ...by uber.

I usually plan ahead if I have to travel especially, when I am overseas...Singapore, easier to get the airport....

We do not make time when public transport is expected to work flawlessly..

We make time for emergency such as sudden death, illness, financial crisis etc,, not for a fucking MRT frequent disruption.. pls get the crisis application in the correct order..

Actually Hor, it is hard to blame the CEO and the minister. Rather, it's the 70% to be blamed.

I pity the CEO and minister for they were paid so much in millions that it takes time to count. Worst, they need lots of time to plan how to spent their millions. It's no easy task. Trust me. Hence they do not have time to look into the train problem even though their 'hearts' are to 'serve' the commuters truly.

For the peasants, nothing much to Budget and plan for as they have nothing in their bank or pockets. Such blessings.

Lucky SMRT not yet build a ERP to collect fares for the privilege to walk on the tracks for selected commuters. They may create more such opportunities and make it chargeable experience! Is only a matter of coining a word for it, just like 'ponding', and whitewashed the problems.
