john is correct. mass typically refers to the amount of matter in an object while weight refers to the force of an object in relation to gravity. a mass of an object at 1 kg will have a weight of 9.81 newtons on the surface of earth. on the moon, its weight will be subject to the gravity of the moon. mass is thus measured in kg while weight or force is measured in newton. f = m*a or force equals mass multiplied by acceleration. basic newtonian physics in primary school.
