515 SAF personnels to be promoted this July

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will be promoting 410 officers, 66 military experts (ME), and 39 warrant officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force to the next higher rank this year.

The promoted personnel include regulars and Operationally Ready National Servicemen.

At a promotion ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this evening, Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen presented certificates to personnel promoted to the ranks of Senior Warrant Officer (SWO), Chief Warrant Officer (CWO), ME7, as well as Colonel and above.

Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General (LG) Ng Chee Meng presented certificates to personnel promoted to the ranks of Master Warrant Officer, ME6, Lieutenant Colonel and Senior Lieutenant Colonel. Also present at the ceremony were spouses of the promoted personnel as well as senior MINDEF officials and SAF officers.

The promotees for this year include the Chief of Army, Brigadier-General Perry Lim who is promoted to the rank of Major-General and Deputy Secretary (Policy), Rear-Admiral (One-Star) Lai Chung Han who is promoted to Rear-Admiral (Two-Star).

In addition, seven Colonels are promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General and Rear Admiral (One-Star). Among the list of warrant officers promoted this year, three SWOs are promoted to the pinnacle rank of CWO.

The SAF promotion exercise is part of an ongoing effort to recognise, reward and groom officers, MEs and warrant officers who have performed well and demonstrated potential to contribute further to the SAF.

All promotions will take effect from July 1, 2014.

Kudos to the PAP for taking defense seriously. Many country pay lip service to defense until it is too late. Singapore has not made the same mistake.

If the "lesser mortals" don't support the PAP then who can the PAP expect support from ? The gurkhas? The PRC? The foreign Indians? .... Even if the newly minted Sporeans vote for the PAP. How dependable will these people be compare to the "lesser mortals" who were born here

If the PAP try to use the newly minted Sporeans against the "locals" They might create a war within Spore.

Very perceptive. Gifting the SAF like this is partly to signal to neighbours we are serious and mostly insurance against freak election results. And mostly the latter for the senior civil servants. No wonder you see all the cockups of late. They are there to serve the PAP not the nation.

Aiyoh ...our troops were trained by the NZ a while back. Our SAF still goes to NZ for exercise and training.

to get to a certain rank in the army you need to have numbers of division, battalions and soldiers and to feed their PAP egos they take your children youth life and 13 years of their life to have many generals, top heavy.

Migrate, get the fuck out of Singapore, port your children out of Singapore and come back as FTs no NSF liability, who cares.

Recently saw two pinoys in SAF uniform talking in their tagalog language. WTF, even pinoys serving in SAF now. A pinoy kid in a primary school here is reported to have said pinoys would one day take over sinkapoo. His prediction might come true.

Where did he get his info? From overhearing what the pinoy adults were saying or from his parents, part of an espionage ring in sinkapoo?

The Russians infiltrated US Govt agencies by living as moles in US for donkey years until they were caught and expelled. Will sinkapoo be infiltrated in the same way by pinoys?
