Car parking etiquette: what were you taught?

There are drivers who put on hazard lights when parking, to warn the cars behind them so that they will not come too near.

Then there are drivers who do not put on hazard lights. If you are driving the car just behind and happen to be too close, you will have to back off a bit so that the car in front can reverse into the parking lot.

What were you taught by your driving instructors, or what do you think is the correct 'etiquette'?

hazard lights comes on when i may pose as a danger to other road users, that's the way i do it.
during parallel parking, hazard lights sure on.

just blinkers will do depending on side you're backing or driving into. reverse lights go on anyway when one is reversing. hazard lights are typically used on the freeway when one needs to brake hard and or slow down dramatically due to hazards in front. it will be an abuse if hazard lights are regularly used for parking. this is californian road courtesy 101. :o

The 'etiquette' is based on your upbringing. If you are a kind person, you will give way when people is parking or signal to filter into you lane.

If you got no upbringing, you will speed up when people signal to enter your lane.

I guess most sinkies got bad upbringing...

My instructor told me parking car is like horse racing. Whoever stick out the nose to the line earlier is the winner.

I remembered i wan taught to only signal when you wan to park the car. Of cos the driver must take care not to stop the car immediately and reverse. I dont use hazard lights unless I am stopping along a road/ expressway.

Putting hazard light during heavy rain or tyre puncture is not the correct way. If you think you are a danger to other road user, then you jolly well stop the car by the side of the road and stop driving. And not to put on hazard lights and hope other road user to take notice/ avoid you.

That's why I never signal in advance and just cut in/change lanes THEN will signal blink once AFTERWARDs....just once.
I've honed this skill to perfection and gives me great satisfaction always.

I put on blinking light when I see a bloody woman prepares to drive off from the parking lot in front so I can park in the vacant lot, but when she sees me waiting she will slowly disengage the gear shift, took out the hand phone and pretends to make a call for 5 minutes then she opens the door, goes to the rear boot to look for spare shoes, come back pull out the phone to make call again ....
