Singapore is doing a fantastic job attracting wealth. We are not creating wealth. Wealthy people can take their wealth anywhere they want. This is hardly a secure foundation for the future.
Monaco has done exactly the same thing for more than half a century and never missed a beat.

It is far easier to maintain a position as a magnet for wealth than it is to create wealth. The net is cast so much wider and there will always be a boom somewhere in the world.

There is no way for a small country to create wealth consistently. The talent pool will never be large enough. Even the big, established countries run out of steam after a while.

Singapore, run by bourgeois plutocrats and oligarchs, is now a rich man's playground.

Ooh, how surprising.

talk so easy...

i think i have the brains but i lack the element of luck...:o

furthermore, i am surrounded by sinkies...

It's not easy and luck plays no part in the process. Getting rich is about actually taking steps to arrive at your goal.

If you're working in a dead end job earning a meagre salary and you dream about getting rich on a daily basis but you do absolutely nothing to take the first step towards achieving your goal, then your life isn't going to change.

If you want to change your life, you have to change your routine and step out of your comfort zone. The first step is hard but the journey gets easier as you progress.

dun estimate the luck element in every thing you set upon in doing. i can assure you a lot of things in life is based on certain percentage of luck.

for example, i have seen this and think it's a very good idea but it's not taking off...

maybe not now but later.

..................................

Please only compare apples with apples.

Extracted from Wiki:

Monaco ... is a sovereign city state, located on the French Riviera in Western Europe. Bordered by France on three sides, with one side bordering the Mediterranean Sea, its center is about 16 km (9.9 mi) from Italy, and is only 13 km (8.1 mi) north east of Nice, France. It has an area of 1.98 km2 (0.76 sq mi), and a population of 36,371, making Monaco the second smallest, and the most densely populated country in the world.

..................................

Until the Monegasque Revolution of 1910 forced the adoption of the 1911 constitution, the princes of Monaco were absolute rulers. The new constitution, however, barely reduced the autocratic rule of the Grimaldis and in any case Albert I soon suspended it. In July 1918, the Franco-Monegasque Treaty was signed, providing for limited French protection over Monaco. The treaty, endorsed in 1919 by the Treaty of Versailles, established that Monegasque international policy would be aligned with French political, military, and economic interests, and resolved the Monaco Succession Crisis.

..................................

................. In 2002, a new treaty between France and Monaco specified that, should there be no heirs to carry on the Grimaldi dynasty, the principality would still remain an independent nation rather than revert to France. Monaco's military defense, however, is still the responsibility of France.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monaco

Now, my comments:

1) We are much more viable as a nation than Monaco. To wit, we have about 500 times the land area and more than 80 times the population (only counting the "natives" of about 3 million).

2) Compare with Monaco only if Singaporeans do not mind being a protectorate of Malaysia or Indonesia, just like that little rock is a protectorate of France.

And National Service is for what?

Thanks for proving what a wonderful job PAP has done for Singapore. Monaco have it easy with France paying for defense. Singapore have to fend off Malaysian and Indonesian bullying yet managed to built a country as successful as Monaco. Opposition supporting retards should be more grateful

Hard work never makes you rich, it doesn't matter whether you are a boss or an employee, or how qualified or brilliant you are.

The pittance of the noveau riche can never triumph over old money.

Family connections make you rich. If you aren't born in a rich family, marry into one and you are set for life. Wong Kan Seng is living proof.

You farking PAP retard, I wouldn't even let you kiss my ass.

Not for your consumption, since I've given up on you as a PAP IB. For the bystander:

1) Singapore's viability as a nation in terms of size, population and geographic location has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Scums in White. You are either 1.98 sq km or 600 sq km or thereabouts. You are either located in a strategic location at the tip of the Malaysian Peninsula or you are not. Those are God given characteristics - like you either born with a penis or without. NOTHING to do with the Scums in White. The population had already reached a viable critical mass when the British departed. Besides, it's your farking idol, the Old Fart, who implemented what crap policy? Yes - STOP AT TWO. A policy failure under who's watch? Yes, under the PAPzis' watch.

2) Voters in a democratic nation do not have to be grateful to anybody - regardless of what they had done or CLAIMED to have done for the nation. Voters should only ask one question: Is A or B the right party to lead the nation for the next five years. Churchill was a great leader during World War Two, but was immediately thrown out after the War because the people wanted a different kind of government for a Post War era. The Old Fart claimed to admire this characteristic of democracy and mentioned this example in his book with the title that glorifies himself. Of course, he understands SHIT about democracy as his conduct throughout ALL his years in power testifies.

3) The defence of the realm in Singapore is by a conscript army drawn from the people and funded by taxpayers' money. Sinkies don't need to be grateful to anybody other than themselves for this. Should the Scums in White or their cronies like you be so thick skinned as to claim credit for this, Sinkies should tell them to FARK OFF or FICK DILCH in German.

FICK DILCH :oIo:

Fair enough.

What you said is true.

But the problem is..

The very first step that Sinkie dared to take is usually doomed to FAIL!

Which put them back into square 1.

Eating out of the hands of the Pap nanny and having bread crumps thrown to them inbetween the days they get screwed!!LOL

Correction.

As one well connected Sinkie pappy crony did say.

Blame it on your own fore father's lack of success and now that's why you are lacking behind now.

During the British colonial era, locals had a different rate of pay, was not allowed into whites only establishments, but the locals were hired to be cooks, amahs, drivers, assistants, clerks and junior executives. The best amongst the locals therefore chose to go into structured professions such as medicine, law, etc and it was them that forced the British out.

Now the PAP has completely brought back the same system where the white man was king to one where all foreigners are king and the locals become aides and assistants to these foreigners. Its common knowledge that these clubs are highly selective and no different to Tanglin Club of yesteryears where there is a small number of locals for appearances while most of the locals are bar tenders and waiters. Interestingly these locals are well paid. Know a senior waiter there that drives a BMW.

How the old times have returned. Kudos to the PAP.

Anyone Singaporean keen to wash a ferrari on a contract basis? Anyone remember the Indian car washers with a pail of water in the back of the bicycles washing cars. Well thankfully it is now open to local malays, chinese and Indians unless the Bangladeshis and the Filipino maids have their way.

More proof that the PAP is doing a fantastic job. If the WP were to take over, wealth would end up as nothing more than a distant memory.

I do not know about Monaco but in the UAE, the Emiratis get free education, health care, subsidized utilities and other privileges not accorded to expats. In Singapore, there is no such policy that ensure that Singaporeans citizens get their fair share of the pie when the pie gets bigger. Instead, citizens get saddled with 2 years NS, forcing to compete with FTs on low wages and rapidly rising housing prices.

The rich and the ultra rich may feel like king here. But the reason they can sleep well at night is because there are thousand of conscripts in the army and the police force on a slave allowance to ensure that the streets are safe at night.
