SMRT told the drivers, “You can resign and go to SBS.”

It is only a matter of time before the first strike takes place. It will be interesting to see how LHL handles that.

Someone has to pay for all the breakdowns SMRT has been having.

The public has already had to face the delays & fare hikes. Now it's the turn of the SMRT employees.

It will be interesting to see how long he will remain independent director of SMRT with the CEO starting today and a board meeting very soon.

hi there

1. being some independent director also receives director fees.
2. approved by the board & its shareholders hoh!
3. who are these in the inner circle?
4. all from the same herd!
5. it is more than just some conflict of interest.

There are hundreds of minions who include civil serpents and MPs who are directors in the close to one thousand directorships available directly through GLCs and organizations and committees. PAPzi members and minions get multiple lucky dip prizes as part of their generosity towards the PAPzi ideals of fascism.

Old-fashioned divide and rule. Kuan Yew must be proud.

more like old fashion thinking: they believe everyone is driven by self-interest, so the driver who was most vocal must have the most self-interest. they tried to bribe him with a better job but it failed. fascinating insight into the mind of our leaders - that everyone can be bribed for the right price.

Militant unions are fucking communist organisations permitting low value workers to receive more than market forces permit. They brought UK to a standstill until Margaret Thatcher chopped off their legs.

sad. when a country constantly destroys unions, the people will have nothing more.

one party governments are money making machines permitting businesses to exploit workers and pay them less than market forces. They bring social upheaval to a country until the electorate chops off their legs.

Actually there no problem. Until some stupid come out and said all get paid rise(need to work one day extra).
That is the problem one day extra/week only get extra $150~$200/month meaning each day only about $35~$40 which are even lower than their basic pay. That mean pay cut.
Now SMRT try to spin spin spin is already out of control.

You know what market forces are or not? Demand and supply. If a wage is too low, people won't work at that wage. The fact that people work at that wage means the wage is not too low.

They have to bring in FTs who are willing to take up the low paying jobs. There is no Singapore market. There is a global market in Singapore. Participants in this market come from all over, many who leave their families in their home countries with PPP multiples several times that of Singapore and they have it real good to participate in this market. Those whose families are here in Singapore have rawer deal.

Yes market forces are at work here and according to supply and demand but what a market that is?

Nonsense. The fact is that there is a quota. To get X foreigners you need Y Singaporeans.

These things having been going on for years. They are now surfacing because workers are now better educated and there are also alternative media such as TOC that are prepared to raise their issues.

Workers and collective bargaining are part of what constitute market forces.
