Interesting People You Met During National Service

You are most welcome. I was from Bravo and that was in early 1987. If I recall correctly, back then the company lines were arranged around the parade square with the companies placed in alphabetical order anti-clockwise. I wasn't aware of the Charlie company story until I ROD.

Same here. I was in Camp 1 Echo Company from March to June 1986 and must have marched past Charlie company daily but didn't know anything about the 3rd Door stories as back then got no internet to spread such stories. Echo company and probably most of the Camp 1 bunks had their own stories.

Does anyone know if Tekong Camp 1 still exists in its original single storey wooden bunk condition?

Which era was this? I vaguely remember the Camp 1 Orientation Officer - Capt Chai in 1986

I remember CPT Chai. He was still the OO during my time. A rather 'round' officer, I must say. I saw him again at Kaohsiung airport way past midnight after I disembarked the SQ flight when I was posted to Starlight for perm staff posting. Back then, he was posted to HQ Starlight already, it seems.

Yes yes, the power of the internet. Without the net, I'll probably be still wondering why the bunk has a door in the middle when the two at the ends are already sufficient.

When I was doing my reservist, I heard that Camp 1 was used as bunks for reservists who had gone to Tekong for training. That was in the early 2000s.

No Strategy For Fascist Party

Rommel was a much better tactical general than most Allied generals.

He a leader who can think on the move and very innovative as he use the anti aircraft 88mm into a fierce anti-tank weapon.

A4 skyhawk use as strike aircraft.

No idea why SAF brought the F15SG strike eagle when F16 are good enough for air to m&d operation. Instead should just buy a air superiority fighter to replace the F5E.

SAF anyhow buy things like as if they are FOC. Those maintenance contracts must be expensive. SAF should get something ... (TOP SECRET) F-15 ? I can hardly care !

Encik in Safti MI are a respected bunch. They are the ones you greet but cannot salute if not sure kenna down 20.

The idiot ocifer who ignored the Encik mus either be a new bird or mountain very big behind.

I'll always remember the gentleman who told me this "Rank is what you wear, respect is what you earn".

this one happened after YAM i think. But yes the reason as to why they bought this piece of crap is ???

The kill rate is real bad and they had to mod the discarded M113 to make it look presentable with the IGLA.

Yeah. When I was there in early 90s, he is still holding ltc rank. He really super yaya guy. I saw him again in safti while I was a trainee. I greeted him and he acted as though I am transparent. Never acknowledge and never even glanced at my direction. Wtf.

Although I do not know that individual, and neither am I passing judgment, I believe that no human being is too superior not to acknowledge the greetings of another individual. As another individual posted earlier or in another discussion thread, " rank is what we put on, but respect is earned".

Officer or not, regular or NSF, we are all equal, and therefore, should acknowledge another's greetings (salute). May be, one way to deal such individuals is to ignore him in the future.

This is the kind of people who will die first when it comes to war. The bullet comes from behind.

As an officer (although long past the age for reserve liability), I do not advocate violence or rebellion against another fellow officer, but with respect, such conduct does not encourage unity and mutual respect.
