Bear-like creature spotted along Ulu Pandan

SINGAPORE:

A bear-like creature was spotted along Ulu Pandan on Monday morning.

The strange scene was caught on an amateur video using a hand phone.

Eyewitness Wilson Tay, a civil engineer, was driving home with his son when he spotted "something strange".

He said his son took the video when the creature was spotted near a dustbin.

By Mr Tay's estimation, the bear was about the height of an average adult human being.

It's as yet unclear whether the creature is for real.

In a media release, Wildlife Reserves Singapore said no bears had been missing from its parks.

Wildlife Reserve Singapore manages the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Jurong Bird Park and the upcoming River Safari.

It added it was unable to verify yet, if the creature was a real bear.

May be it swam to Singapore from indonesia or malaysia and our coast poodle didn't notice - because it is black. Looks like malayan bear to me.

If it is not from our great zoo, it must have been from some resident who kept it as pet.

Anyway this city state is serious lack of nature. It'll be nice to see more wildlife on the street so long they don't cause too much threat to human..

SINGAPORE: A bear-like creature was spotted along at a bus stop along Ulu Pandan Road recently.

The creature, which was about the height of an average human being, was caught on amateur video by a reader Philip3D who sent the video to STOMP. The creature standing near a dustbin when it was filmed.

The reader said: "I was on my way back from the airport with my son, driving along the main Ulu Pandan Road and noticed something strange at the bus stop, near a dustbin.

"At first we thought it was a big dog or some sort of creature.

"My son took this video on his handphone, and after many views we realised it could quite simply be a bear!

"After it caught sight of us and started heading our way, it made sense to drive off without hesitation.

"It was a close shave."

It is still unclear if the creature is real.

1) Identify and interview "civil engineer" that took video
2) If he is really a civil engineer and he confirms true then we have a problem.
3) Send police to take statement - if there is a large bear running around it is very dangerous. If the civil engineer lies that will affect his reputation as a civil engineer

That's really an oxymoron. Wild animals are unpredictable. Especially a bear. Imagine if there were humans at the bus stop. A bear can easily kill a human even one at that size which is pretty small for a bear but of course still pretty large compared to a human.

A video of a strange, bear-like creature spotted along Ulu Pandan Road is creating a huge stir online.

The video — which was uploaded on citizen journalism site Stomp and which remains unverified — shows a blurry, dark shape standing over a bus-stop dustbin along Ulu Pandan Road.

When contacted by The New Paper, the person who uploaded the video, Philip3D, said he and his son were driving along the area when they saw what looked like “a big dog or some sort of creature”.

“‘After it caught sight of us and started heading our way, it made sense to drive off without hesitation,” he said, before adding it had been “a close shave”.

In the 11-second video, someone can be heard saying, “Eh, how come Singapore got bear one, ah?” before a hurried “let’s go, let’s go” as the creature looks in his direction.

Meanwhile, the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) said on Wednesday that it is still seeking clearer pictures of the creature and more information from the public on the sighting.

According to the WRS, no bears have escaped from the premises of its parks, which include the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari. The zoo is home to the Malayan sun bear and polar bear, and the sloth bear resides in the Night Safari.

WRS said it was unable to verify the authenticity of the bear sighting, adding, “To our knowledge, there has been no prior report of wild bear sightings in Singapore in recent times.”

And yet, footage of the mystery creature has definitely got Singaporeans talking.

Some netizens are speculating that the bear-like creature may in fact be a Binturong, also known as the Asian bearcat, that is native to the region. A specimen of the animal was found in Bukit Panjang and taken to the Singapore Zoo in 2004.

Bear, Binturong or a clever hoax, you be the judge

Already saw some wild actions in a (middle-class) condominium where bones, tissue places and paper plates were kicked into the swimming pool and toilet. In the street they will become even wilder!

PAP still sleeping? nothing was done to identify the creature and it was not caught? Now I know why Mas Selamat can escape easily. Complacency of the minitoots and silver serpents.
