SINGAPORE: Singapore may have its shortcomings, but it is important to work with the community to minimise areas which need improvement.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Mr Lim Swee Say, said this was the key takeaway he got from the recent five-day Parliament debate on the President's address.

He said the government has been trying to do this since the last General Election.

"No country is a perfect world," said Mr Lim. "At least we make sure that firstly we are less imperfect than anybody else, but more importantly, there is always hope that our future will be better and future generations will be able to live better."

Mr Lim was speaking at the annual People's Association Awards.

Some 16 grassroots committees were recognised for their work in launching creative programmes for residents.

This included a project in Bukit Panjang where volunteers made regular house visits to take note of residents' special needs during emergencies.

WeCARE Awards were also given out to recognise the efforts and commitments of grassroots organisations in serving residents.

Over the years, the People's Association says more community partners have come forward to organise programmes for residents.

The "upturn the downturn" man does it again. Viva Zero!

The man is a disgrace. Has not said anything of value since he left the National Computer Board. He is the only cabinet minister that is roundly ridiculed by all levels of society because they know that he is talking nonsense. Most of the cabinet can get away with a fair bit of fluff by using language skills and bit of intelligence. This guy has none of these.

Yeah, full marks for entertainment. Just like his predecessor, Lim Boon Heng, another clown who was roundly ridiculed for suggesting that tertiary qualifications like diplomas and degrees need expiry dates. The laughter nearly brought the house down.

a bit of entertainment value there lah... without his gaffes, how do make him the butt of the joke?

Oh! You remember that. Me and a group of friends were watching some live soccer match and during half-time flipped to CNA that happen to feature Cry-baby Lim making this speech. My Indian friend who was with me, walked to the TV set, took out his penis and shoved it into Lim BH mouth and shouted "Lan Jiao". We all raised our glasses and shouted in unison "give that man (Indian friend) a Tiger. That's how much people like Lim BH and Zorro Lim are being ridiculed by people.
