Youth arrested for loanshark harassment in Ang Mo Kio

SINGAPORE - An 18-year-old youth was arrested early Wednesday morning after he was seen behaving suspiciously by an Ang Mo Kio resident.
Police said in a statement that a vigilant house occupant spotted the suspect outside his unit at about 12.30am on Nov 6 and alerted them.
Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division managed to locate and detain the man in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.
According to police, preliminary investigations revealed the suspect had committed loanshark harassment in Ang Mo Kio Estate by splashing paint and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of the HDB block.
He is also believed to have committed other cases of harassment islandwide, the statement added.
The male suspect will be charged in court on Nov 7 for loanshark harassment under the Moneylenders Act.
First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.
