STOMPer Jennifer shares some photos of the National Day decorations at Yew Tee Zone '12', put up by the Residents' Committee. The flags are sewn one-by-one.

Jennifer shares her experience in decorating the estate with friends:

"Every year we will put up our flags to decorate our estate to celebrate our National Day. I started to take this project in Year 2009. We have since been awarded the best decorated block in Yew Tee Constituency for two consecutive years. This year the judging will be on 23rd July 2011.

"I personally design and sew it myself.

"I used 49 Singapore flags to join together to form the Singapore Map to represent 'Singapura' and the number '46' which is Singapore 46th year of independence. The words 'Majulah' and 'Yew Tee Zone 12 RC' are made of recycled water bottles cut into flowers and sprayed with red paint.

"We started collecting the empty water and cooking oil bottles since end of April 2011 with the help of members and residents. My members will wash and cut into flowers.

"Time is running short as I only have 7 days to do the sewing of the flags together to form a Singapore Map. The flags '46' and the Singapore flags are of different sizes and my measurement has to be very accurate and it’s not easy as I am not a professional seamstress so this alone took up a lot of my time.

"As I am working full time I do not have much time and due to space constraint I can only sew at our RC centre. The centre is not available some evenings as there is ongoing classes.

"Two days after I started sewing, one of my members suggested that I should change my design as he thinks that I will not be able to meet the deadline as my design is very complicated and not easy to handle but I rejected him. I insisted that I should continue with this design as I like it and I have the confidence in getting the best decorated block again this year.

"I don’t think anybody in Singapore has done what I did. With my perseverance, desire and confident I told myself I can do it in time. Since I have committed to this project and due to limited space and time, I work 14hrs over the weekend. I even took 3 days leave from work and when come to the last day of my deadline I work till 2am just to complete the Singapore map.

"I am not a creative person neither am I love art or in this industry, I feel proud of my achievement and the kind of work I have produced.

"Of course not to forget that I have a team of members, residents and friends of Yew Tee Zone 12 RC who hang up high at 10-storey between 2 blocks of flats that make this project a great success!!
