Year Five boy held for selling ketum water

KEMAMAN: A Year Five pupil has been detained for peddling the prohibitedketum leaf water, a type of intoxicating substance, at a makeshift stall in Kampung Lubuk Lesung here. A preliminary investigation showed that the pupil was helping his father, a habitual drug addict, to sell the substance during his absence, Kemaman OCPD Supt Abdullah Sani Salat said.

He said the police team from the narcotics department, acting on a tip-off, detained the boy while he was distributing the substance and seized eight packets of the subtance during the raid yesterday. He said the pupil told the police that he wanted to stop his studies as he had a lucrative income selling ketum leaf water. Each packet was sold for RM2.

The boy could sell dozens of packets each day.
His family members would take turns to man the stall which is less than 200m from their home. Supt Abdullah Sani said police were expecting to arrest other family members. The stall on the busy Jabor-Jerangau trunk road was open round-the-clock and was popular with lorry and bus drivers plying the stretch.
