Troy PD investigating quadruple homicide

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Four people were found dead in the basement of a Troy apartment building Tuesday afternoon.

Troy Police Capt. Dan DeWolf said police were called to 158 2nd Ave. around 12:50 p.m. after the property manager reported finding four people unresponsive in the basement apartment.

When officers and medics arrived, they found four people dead. All four were residents of the basement apartment, police said.

Jason Fenton has lived across the street for nearly 20 years.

“It’s horrible,” he said. “I feel bad for the families.”

Fenton just got back from being away for the holiday and said kids around the ages of 10 to 12 lived in the building where the bodies were found.

“When I left on Friday, there were kids playing outside in the snow, so I mean, I can only hope it didn’t involve them,” he said.

Police did not release the ages or genders of the victims on Tuesday. DeWolf said all four deaths appear suspicious and are being investigated as homicides.

“Unfortunately, it’s horrible, terrible, sad, especially at this time of the year that there’s four deceased folks in there,” he said.

New York State Police are assisting.

“We’re gonna do everything we can to look into this and get to the bottom of what happened here,” DeWolf said.

Fenton looks forward to getting answers because he said the neighborhood is usually quiet.

“Most of the people that live here are single families and they’re trying to make Troy better and they’re trying to make this Capital Region better,” he said.

DeWolf said he believes the deaths were an isolated incident; however, he urges the public to be aware of their surroundings.
