During a recent trip to Johor Bahru, I had to abandon several plans to visit local eateries after failing to find a single empty parking spot. At first, I didn’t think much of it, but it quickly became clear that parking problem in JB runs deeper than I had assumed.

According to an article by the New Straits Times, many JB traders — especially food hawkers — have voiced their concerns to the authorities about the impact on their businesses.

The problem stems from parking spaces near the CIQcomplex and JB City Centre being frequently occupied by Johor residents commuting to Singapore for work. These workers typically park as early as 5am and return as late as 8pm.

TS failed to understand that the problem is caused by Johoreans who park for free near the Causeway, before making their way to S'pore for work. These are not S'porean cars for God's sake!

My family seldom drives to JB, but we do make stopovers after road trips to Melaka, KL, Ipoh or Penang. I always park inside the shopping malls, which I feel may be safer than parking in small lanes or by the roadside.

sinkies would double park and leave engine running to keep ac running while waiting for a spot to park in jb. very chow kuan.

They may have to wait till 8 pm for the Malaysian drivers to return to their cars after working in S'pore.
