Two baggage handlers arrested for jewellery theft

Two baggage handlers have been arrested for a series of jewellery theft at the Budget Terminal, Changi Airport.
In September 2011, the airport police conducted a probe after receiving several reports from passengers that their jewellery had been stolen from their check-in baggage.
It was established that one of the baggage handlers at the terminal was responsible for the theft.
The suspect had also pawned the stolen items at various pawnshops.
The suspect was arrested on November 23.
Investigations revealed that another baggage handler was also involved in the thefts and he was also arrested.
The stolen jewellery was recovered and seized for investigations.
The two suspects will be charged in court on November 25 for theft with common intention and dishonestly disposing of stolen properties.
Commander of Airport Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Keok Tong San, commended his officers for their good investigative work and prompt action resulting in the arrest of the two suspects.
He also advised passengers to not place jewellery and valuables in their check-in baggage to prevent occurrence of such theft.
