Read this morning The Straits Times and today TODAY.
Apparently, this afternoon NSP will formally announce their candidates to challenge PAP at Marine Parade GRC.
FInally, after more than 25 years, I had a chance to vote in a GE; and to demonstrate my displeasure at PAP "cost-plus" policies by voting against 'em.
Of course, my one vote is irrelevant and akin to a gnat bite on a rhinoceros' thin hide. Come what may, 90% HDB Heartlanders will outvote that 10% living in private properties...and PAP will regain absolute political control and goes their merry way for the next 20 years or more.
24-year old advertising executive said that she is motivated to help those "middle class" Singaporeans that slipped thru' the social networks erected by PAP targetting solely at HDB Heartlanders (remember, 90% voters there and than 10% can be ignored utterly without fear of an Electorate backlash from 'em).
And her policy will resonate with the SIlvered Hair Brigade like me, and also middle-class ageing bbayboomer like me as well.
Whereas 27-year old Tin Pei Ling went the other tack (remember again, 90% will outvote 10% anytime of the day!) with her 7 (or 8 or 9?) years of grassroot works in HDB heartlands and understudying Matthias Yao at MacPherson SMC.
A contest of Middle Class "Sandwich" Class vs HDB Heartlanders' "Asset Enhancement" Polices?
Will PAP leaders let this rare flower out of her protective GRC Greenhouse, allow her to bloom in "winter of adversity" by challenging a 24 year old Nicole Seah to a "live" debate on what both of 'em stand for and why they are selected instead of droning on like a broken record on their "past grassroot activities" as their primary attribute as a candidate.
And presetn their case as to why they are the better representative for Gen-Y.
Better still, like SM Goh CHok Tong challenging Chee Soon Juan to "single combat" at MacPherson SMC, then it is time for PM Lee to shut-up all critics of Tin Pei Ling by challenging 24 year old Nicole Seah to contest against 27 year old Tin Pei Ling at MacPherson SMC as follows:
1 - Both of 'em will contest in MacPerson SMC, separated from Marine Parade GRC.
2 - Precincts at the precious "GE2006 Macpherson SMC" are counted separately.
3 - If Tin Pei Ling garners less than 50% valid votes, Nicole Seah will takeover as the elected MP in MacPherson SMC.
4 - If Tin Pei Ling wins, MacPherson SMC will revert to Marine Paade GRC.
It will be a most interesting result as it is an effective gauge of the mood of SIngaporeans.
WIll HDB heartlanders brave enough to reject "HDB Asset Enhancement" which they believe PAP leaders are out of touch with grassroots whose real concerns are actually "cost of living", "resentments against foreigners encroaching into the living space" and worst cut of all "all their sacrifices for the past decades are in vain with foreigners (ontirbuting nothing to building up SIngapore to what it si today) taking over their jobs, their HDB estates and suppressing their salaries to derisory "3rd World Level" levels"?
