SINGAPORE: Police have arrested two women, aged 32 and 38, for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
Since mid-July, the police have received several reports of loanshark harassments in which paint was splashed and loanshark-related writings were discovered on the walls of HDB blocks in the Jurong East and Ghim Moh.
Officers from Clementi Police Division analysed the crime patterns and stepped up patrols.
Their efforts paid off when they managed to obtain CCTV footage of the two suspects.
On Saturday afternoon, the two suspects were arrested in the vicinity of Jurong West Central.
Items such as cans of paint, marker pens, mobile phones, and notes containing suspected debtors' records, were seized.
Early investigation revealed the suspects are believed to be involved in more than 20 similar cases of loanshark harassments in the Jurong, Choa Chua Kang, Bukit Panjang, Woodlands, Ang Mo Kio, Sengkang, Punggol and Hougang housing estates.
They will be charged on Monday in court.
