Women and Islamist Extremism

None of the traditional legal systems actually stipulate that women must wear a veil: It is only the wives of Muḥammad who are instructed to wear this article of clothing (33:59)

O Prophet! Ask your wives, daughters, and believing women to draw their cloaks over their bodies. In this way it is more likely that they will be recognized ˹as virtuous˺ and not be harassed. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Quran 2:191 –
“And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from where they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. And do not fight with them at the sacred mosque until they first attack you there, but if they attack you, then kill them. This is the reward of unbelievers.”
