SINGAPORE - A KTV club manager was scuffling with her then fiance when a kitchen knife she was holding pierced his lower back, causing a 1.5cm stab wound.
Sumiati Buang, 33, was living with Mohamad Rizal Ramli, 36, in City Square Residences in Kitchener Link on April 8 last year when it happened. She faced an amended charge of hurting him through a rash act that endangered his personal safety .
Sumiati, who is pregnant, was jailed for two weeks on Friday (April 29) after she pleaded guilty.
A district court heard that Rizal was asleep when Sumiati came across a photograph of a woman holding the victim in an intimate way on his mobile phone Facebook account page.
Enraged, she woke him up and they quarrelled.
He then punched her on the face and both got into a scuffle.
Shortly, she broke free from the scuffle and went into the kitchen to retrieve a kitchen knife.
She then returned to the bedroom. The couple resumed their quarrel. As he wanted to leave the bedroom and take his mobile phone back, they got into a scuffle again.
She was holding the kitchen knife when it pierced Rizal's lower thoracic region. She then pulled the knife back and called the police.
Rizal was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he was treated for the stab wound.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Houston Johannus sought a sentence of three to four weeks' jail, saying she had a similar antecedent for affray.
Her lawyer Zaminder Singh Gill pleaded with the court to give his client a chance. He said she is due to deliver her first child in July and is ashamed of what had happened.
He said she got married seven months ago to someone else, and has learnt to exercise more self-control.
She could have been jailed for up to one year and fined up to $5,000.
Rizal will be dealt with separately.
