ANOTHER person was convicted of motor insurance fraud and jailed for two months on Thursday. Housewife Lim Mui Fong, 65, pleaded guilty to conspiring with Ong Ai Peng, 47, to cheat India International Insurance in 2008 by deceiving the company into believing that she was injured in a road traffic accident on July 15 that year.
Her son, Foo Tze Chiang, 41, unemployed, and sales promoter Lim Jit Meng, 47, have been jailed four and two months respectively. On Thursday, the court heard that a taxi was involved in an accident along Sembawang Road with three other vehicles on July 15, 2008. When Ong heard about it, he plotted to deceive India International Insurance by getting persons to claim that they were passengers in vehicles involved in the accident.
He approached Lim and offered her the chance to make extra money quickly by posing as a phantom passenger. She saw a doctor and claimed she was injured in a road traffic accident. She handed her medical certificate and receipt to Ong after the consultation. The insurance company, which had received 20 motor injury claims, referred the matter to the Commercial Affairs Department as it found the claims suspicious.
