A woman was charged with 12 counts of abusing her Indonesian maid over a nine-month period in 2010.

Chan Huey Fern, 31, allegedly used objects such as a foldable chair and an umbrella to hit Ms Juwarti at her home in Buangkok Link.

Apart from allegedly pushing, punching and kicking her, she is also said to have pushed the maid's forehead causing it to hit against the wall used her leg to stamp on her chest and caned her on the legs.

A woman was found guilty of abusing her Indonesian maid after a 13-day trial.

Chan Huey Fern, 32, was tried on five of 12 counts of causing hurt to her domestic worker, Ms Juwarti, at her flat in Buangkok Link between mid- and end-December in 2010.

She was convicted by District Judge Low Wee Ping of the charges which were mostly of punching Ms Juwarti in the eye, and kicking her on the body and private parts.

Chan denied the charges. Her defence was that the injuries were either self-inflicted or could have come from "an unknown external source'' before the maid left the flat on Dec 31 that year.

The victim, then 25, had testified that Chan punched her eye in mid-December when she felt sleepy while taking care of Chan's two young children.

Twelve days later, she said Chan assaulted her by kicking her on the body, pushing her head against the edge of a toilet doorway, and kicking her vagina area. Chan hit out at her for not monitoring her son's temperature.

The last straw for Ms Juwarti came when Chan assaulted her again after finding that she had not covered Chan's child with a blanket.

Ms Juwarti ran away and called for an ambulance. A paramedic found her sobbing with bruises over her eyelid and knee.

Judge Low said the maid had suffered horrific injuries.
