Woman, 65, dies after cab hits and runs over her

She was crossing the road aiming to catch the last bus home when she was hit and run over by a taxi.

Madam Tay Kiat Eng, 65, a part-time KFC worker, died en route to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Police told The New Paper yesterday that the accident occurred along Bukit Timah Road towards Woodlands Road at around 12.28am on Nov 27 and a 69-year-old cab driver had been arrested.

Police said investigations are ongoing, and Mr Richard Poh, 29, the youngest of Madam Tay's four children, is appealing for witnesses to come forward and help.

Mr Poh, who is studying in Melbourne, last saw his mother at lunch two years ago when he came back to Singapore for a short visit.

Upon receiving news of her passing, he scrambled to book the next available ticket to Singapore and arrived on the same day of the incident.

He said: "I was shell-shocked when I found out. I didn't get to spend enough time with her, my biggest regret is not being able to come back to take care of her after I graduate."

According to passers-by who reached out, two passengers almost immediately rushed out of the taxi after the collision to help Madam Tay, who was moaning in pain before losing unconscious.

ComfortDelGro's group chief corporate communications officer, Ms Tammy Tan, said it has reached out to the deceased's next of kin to assist them.

She added: "The hiring agreement of the cabby has also been terminated and we are assisting the Police in their investigations."

Shocking news indeed...65 yo woman working part-time in KFC and a 69 yo man driving a taxi.

Both should be retiring and enjoying their CPF.....

taxi uncle 69yo driving at night

eyes got see like never see

One less Merdekan vote for PAP... sad!

One less senior citizen serving me fast food... sad!

The taxi driver did the family a big favour by reducing their expenses on looking after the old farts. However Soylent Green would have been more humane

KNN from here can note a couple of points KNN
1. Pap is the actual killer of this accident KNN
a. For issuing license to the taxi driver KNN
b. For causing the auntie to dash for the last bus becas taxi is very expensive for her salary KNN
c. For holding the cpf of the taxi driver and the auntie so he has to drive taxi and she has to work kfc KNN

2. Without pap doing part 1 above this auntie would not have died KNN

Her 4 children should provide a monthly living allowance for her so she need not work part-time at KFC :frown:

Rushing to catch the last bus. She was on the other side of the road and the bus was just leaving.

Hopefully, taxi drivers can work until 96 years old.

You could try working in jiuhu and see how many old people can really retire comfortably. Most are mired in poverty and dependent on their adult children to care for them. At least in Singapore, we allow our seniors to retire with dignity. They get free cash every month from CPF, and they get to kill boredom and earn pocket money by continuing to work.
