that stupid $969 law that allows shoplifters to steal anything from any store amounting to $969 or less, and police will not respond nor intervene as it’s a misdemeanor (minor issue not requiring 911 assistance). thus store employees are instructed to stand aside or hide and let burglars steal as much as they wish as nobody can precisely determine $ amount of goods stolen. this leads to employees’ safety concerns, refusal to work there, and no new workers wanting to sign up for retail jobs in the area. thus, bo pian due to daily thefts and lack of employees shops have to close. meanwhile outside of sf in other cities new stores open. sf truly fucked up like prc.

Many homelessness in california as its almost impossible to approve new housing developments. Maybe now with stores shutting, they can develop new homes on those sites.
