Singapore star Stefanie Sun praised for anonymously donating US$1.4 million to deprived Chinese regions
Fellow star reveals that generosity shown over several years came from singer Sun; says move will spread ‘positive energy’
Singaporean singer Stefanie Sun Yanzi has donated more than 10 million yuan (US$1.4 million) to a charity fund in China over the past decade, winning admiration on social media.
Top Chinese diva Han Hong revealed that the singer was behind the previously anonymous donations while introducing Sun as a guest at Han’s Beijing concert on October 7, the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald reported.
Han established the Beijing Han Hong Love Charity Foundation in 2012. It mainly engages in medical, education and disaster relief projects across China.
Since then, Sun has donated to the fund every year using only the name Ms Sun. The total amount of her annual donations came to 8 million yuan (US$1.1 million), the report said.
Earlier this year, she made an additional donation of 2 million yuan (US$280,000) to the fund for flood disaster victims in southwestern Guizhou province.
Sun only agreed to make her donations known to the public recently.
“Sun always told us not to write down her name on the donation maker list. I finally persuaded her to change her mind by telling her that in this day and age, we need positive energy. We need to promote good people and their good deeds,” Han told the audience at her concert in Beijing.
