MP Sylvia Lim
MP for Aljunied GRC Sylvia Lim, who is also the Chairman of Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC), has decided to withdraw an adjournment motion to debate the public interest in town council management at the next sitting of Parliament on Monday (14 Jan).
Ms Lim filed the motion, titled “Safeguarding the Public Interest in Town Council Management”, on Tue (8 Jan) afternoon and posted a Facebook note to inform the public on the same day:
However, she said today (10 Jan) that she would withdraw the adjournment motion as PM Lee has called for a government review of the nature of town councils.
PM Lee, on the same day (8 Jan) that Ms Lim filed the motion, issued a public statement saying that he had asked the Ministry of National Development (MND) to fully review the transaction of PAP Town Council’s management software to Action Information Management (AIM) in 2010.
Ms Lim said that the goal of protecting the interests of the public and residents would be better served if the Government investigation and review were to first proceed.
She added that after the review has been completed and its findings published, the matter can be raised in Parliament again as the circumstances require. She said that AHTC is ready to give its input to MND for the review.
Public have been angry to discover that software developed by PAP Town Councils using public funds for public purpose has been “transferred” to a PAP-owned company, AIM. Furthermore, the company only has a paid-up of $2.
