The SDP met with residents of Blk 686B, Drive 73, Woodlands, on 18 Jun 11 tto discuss the aftermath of the incident of the dead body found in the water-tank of the block. Several questions were raised by the residents which the SDP promised to write to the Sembawang Town Council on their behalf.

These included whether water sampling was conducted and who would pay for the replacement of the water-taking.

Mr Vikram Nair, MP
and
General Manager
Sembawang Town Council

Dear Sirs/Madam,

We met with residents of Blk 686B, Drive 73, Woodlands, last weekend over the matter of the dead body found in the water-tank of the block. On their behalf, the Singapore Democratic Party would like to ask the following questions of the Sembawang Town Council:

Was water sampling conducted after the incident and, if so, can the Town Council disclose the results with the residents and members of the public?

Was a review conducted on why there was no system of control with regards to the handling and taking over of keys to access the rooftop, despite the Town Council claiming that a ¡°double security system is already in place¡±? If there was, what were the findings? If not, why not?

What is the Town Council going to do to ensure that access to the rooftop is not only restricted and also monitored?

Which Town Council officer was responsible for the lapse in security over the access to the rooftop? Have any steps been taken to address the officer's negligence? If so, what are they. If no, why not?

How is the Town Council going to address the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which some of the residents are going through? How is the Town Council going to address the residents¡¯ health concerns, especially young children, the elderly, those who are physically weak?

Besides the above questions, the SDP would like the Town Council to answer the following questions:

Who is picking up the tab for the replacement the water tank? The SDP reiterates that the residents should not be made to pay for the negligence of the Town Council.

Besides changing the water tank, is the Town Council going to change the water pipes as well? This is because there residual elements from the corpse may be retained in the pipes.

Since the water tank has been replaced, water sampling should be conducted at random households and the results of the laboratory report should be disclosed to the residents and members of the public. Has this been done?

We look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Sadasivam Veriyah

SDP,

why don't u guys now proceed to BEDOK RESERVOIR and demand that the whole reservoir be drained and replenished with fresh clean water? there was a half rotting body found. the other top half is still missing and probably rotting away in some seclusive spot. draining the entire reservoir should ur cause for "human rights" to create more public nuisance.
