MR HENRY LIM: 'In Thursday's report, 'Strictly no eating, drinking', Transport Minister Raymond Lim stressed that strict train rules banning eating and drinking are to ensure cleanliness and hygiene on the trains and stations for the benefit of all passengers. If that is so, why are most retail properties in train stations leased to small eateries and fast-food chains? Is SMRT's rental practice in conflict with its own rules and regulations? The odour from these eateries finds its way into trains too, especially at Chinatown and Bugis MRT stations.'
